Breaking News!
Code: y-axis alert!
On November 1, 2026, the global sea-surface temperature anomaly exceeded 7 standard deviations above the 1982-2011 baseline for the first time, reaching 7.12σ.
In "normal times" this would be about a 1-in-1,800,000,000,000 event.

A record-breaking marine heatwave continues along the CA coast. Remarkably, as readings from Scripps Pier in La Jolla illustrate, the usual seasonal cycle (i.e., ocean cooling as summer transitions into winter) is completely absent--with ~75F water temperatures now into November!

ALT Time series plot from Scripps/UCSD showing daily 2026 ocean surface temperatures. Over 60 days so far this year have been record warm, with virtually all recent days being well above historical records for the date as no seasonal cooling at all has yet been observed despite rapid cooling usually beginning in September. It is a remarkable graphic.

The world’s leading seasonal forecast models have never shown California this wet, not even in 1997–98.
Europe’s Copernicus climate service (C3S) just released its October outlook, combining 10 seasonal forecast models from 9 weather agencies. The C3S average calls for 156% of normal precipitation statewide this Dec–Feb, the wettest California winter forecast these models have produced, wetter even than their reruns of the 1997–98 super El Niño.
Out of 454 total model members, only 8% show a drier-than-average Dec–Feb statewide, while about 13% are explicitly forecasting California’s wettest winter on record. A record-wet winter is now more likely than a dry one.
This far out, forecasts are about odds, not certainties. But 9 in 10 runs come in at or above normal, and even the driest 10% of runs average 88% of normal. The odds have never leaned this heavily toward an exceptionally wet winter, though a below-normal winter is still possible, but extremely unlikely.

NEW: Regular people are losing the right to fish in Alaska.
Corporations discard millions of pounds of fish every year while people lose access to rivers, and the media is sleeping on the story.
Now the working class is fighting back, and their rage could flip the US Senate.

This is Camp IV on Mt Everest (~7,900 m), the highest campsite on Earth and the final stop before the summit.
What should be one of the most extraordinary places on the planet has, in many ways, become one of the ugliest faces of Everest's commercialisation. Abandoned tents, empty oxygen bottles, food cans, torn gear, and other waste are scattered across the South Col, turning the world's highest campsite into a graveyard of climbing equipment.
The mountain deserves better.
