What about Kim Jong Un? He might be a better candidate.

This is Novi Sad, the site of the horrific awning collapse that killed 16 people, sparking the massive student-led protests that led to Vučić's demise two years later. Seeing the entire place bounce like this is truly a once-in-a-lifetime thing.

The French situation is worse than the spread over German debt suggests, because German debt is no longer priced as risk free. An alternative measure, the swap spread, looks even worse and is now higher than its highest daily close during the euro crisis (chart shows weekly)

There's a large Vietnamese community in France 🇫🇷. Vietnam was a French colony that was ruled more directly and for longer than Algeria in many respects. Vietnamese kids top the French education rankings, have some of the lowest unemployment of any immigrant group, and somehow managed not to set Paris on fire. Weird how some use “colonial trauma” as a reason to succeed and others treat it as a reason to riot
American-Egyptian activist Eman Mabrouk celebrates the riots in France: ''I think burn it all down, stop sucking European Master's dicks, liberation isn't going to be pretty, it's going to cost blood, it's going to cost lives.'' Really cool how this third world bio-weapon somehow gets a piece of paper calling her American even as she agitates for race war against white people. 70,000 Instagram likes! Also really fucking cool that so-called ''Australian'' citizen Dr. Mo Mustafa - widely known as the "Beast from the Middle East'' - collaborated with her on this Instagram reel. He calls himself an Australian for the benefits of the passport while endorsing videos like this which call for explicit race war against Europeans. Western immigration policy has been a catastrophe for decades, how the fuck did these people get passports when they hate us this much.

I complain plenty about Oakland city government. But at dinner 2yo swallowed something wrong and started choking. She was still breathing, but with difficulty. When she couldn't talk or make sounds above a whisper we called 911. You're not supposed to do the Heimlich if the airway is only partially obstructed, apparently, but this meant there was nothing to do at all except stand there and encourage her to cough. "Yell," we would suggest to her between coughs, and she'd make these concerning little whistley sounds. I think the first police officer was on our doorstep in like 3 minutes, and a fire truck and ambulance within 5. Of course the minute they arrived she coughed successfully and was completely fine. But if she hadn't been - and when this kind of thing happens it's impossible not to play out what happens if it hadn't been - help was minutes away. Sometimes it feels like I owe more to our civilization than I could ever possibly repay. I write blog posts, and raise kids, and if I ever need it a dozen strangers will be at my doorstep with unfathomably complicated emergency medicine. I am grateful to the cops and the firefighters and the paramedics and the city of Oakland. I will probably sentimentally vote for some of the bond issues I was on the fence about even though we already have the highest taxes in the Bay. She's fine. We sang happy birthday to her Mommy a couple minutes later, and she sang the loudest.

The Bangladeshi couple story hit home in more than one ways. This is a completely true story and I am willing to sign an affidavit. The year was 2000. I was with one of my exes (those privy to my life story don’t try and guess which one - that is not the point- let that be a mystery). We were Pakistani international students in the US. She was 19 and I was 20. We were very much in love and very hands on. One day we were … umm you know … next to a beautiful building which we thought was empty. Hormones were raging and we couldn’t keep our hands off of each other. Next thing we know a pastor walks out, smiles at us and says “I am not sure if you know but this is a church, that is the window to the main hall and my congregation is really distracted by you two right now”. We smiled embarrassed, apologised and beat a hasty retreat. Thank God it was the US and not Saudi Arabia. Needless to say our hearts went on and we were not beheaded for the crime of being young. Civilised country, civilised people and I dare say civilised religion. Muslims need to self reflect. Do you really want to be what you are today ? To me that Bangladeshi couple are martyrs of love.

"US gave nothing in return" except for the soul of the country
President Trump says American Stephen Hubbard has been released from Russian prison after Trump personally asked Putin for his release in a phone call last week. Trump says the US gave nothing in return and that no prisoner swap was required. #US

in India political parties to buy vote used to give alcohol/grain etc. In free market economy like that USA, Trump is giving 5k. Go do whatever you like with that money. Full good old american freedom
Trump: "If you elected a Republican House and Senate on November 3, you're gonna get $5,000. And if we lose, you get nothing. You're gonna get nothing! If we lose, you get nothing. Make it a lot easier vote."

Europe, or anyone else for that matter, would have to be mad to depend in anyway on Starlink for its defence.
Elon Musk ordered the slowdown of the military version of Starlink that Ukraine relies on, according to U.S. officials and people familiar with the matter who spoke to The Wall Street Journal. Musk wrote on X after it became public that “any limits on speed or usage are decided by the US military and ultimately POTUS.” Trump told reporters Monday he didn’t know who was responsible, “but I would like to find out.” The Journal reports Musk and Trump spoke by phone soon after the slowdown became public, according to two people, and one said they also discussed it before. Some U.S. officials told the Journal Musk acted unilaterally and Trump did not order retribution against Ukraine. That conflicts with earlier reports. Reuters reported the order came from inside the White House, and The Telegraph reported Musk proposed it to Trump. A senior U.S. official told Reuters the president made no such request. 1/ Cohesion funds are a poison pill. After four decades and vast sums, income inequality across European regions remains stark. Countries such as Portugal and Greece and regions including the South of Italy and much of Spain have not converged. The EU cohesion funds have failed at their objective. You can pre-order my new book, which makes the case for ending them. A thread 🧵

A Frenchman tells us that raising taxes in order to fund a lavish welfare state works well. But I checked in with some other Frenchmen and received some contradictory information.
Hi @elonmusk , we’ve conducted the most comprehensive study to date on tax unfairness in the United States. We found that you, like your fellow billionaires, pay a lower effective tax rate than the average American. So if you really want to help the American people, I have a better suggestion than charity: pay more taxes. 🧵

The fatal challenge to heterodox economics is that there isn't actually orthodox economics. Just take a few recent Nobels: behavioral, information failure, institutions, bubbles, financial fragility, labor monopsony (sort of), Schumpeterian creative destruction, etc. Not to mention RCTs which are emblematic of how much economic research is empirical and only lightly if at all structural. The real difference is methods. Heterodox economics is an avowedly political project not a social scientific effort to better understand the world. And I have nothing against political projects just shouldn't confuse the two.
