Guess what else contributes to the local economy and sustainability? COLLEGES.
🏰 It was great to visit @GlamisCastle today to hear more about their contribution to the local economy, and focus on sustainability.

The complete ignorance of this post in the face of what you should be doing right now is shameful. Are you genuinely content to allow FE colleges to collapse on your watch? Is that the legacy you want? The destruction of working class education access?

Why have you abandoned colleges?

We’ve had a decade to witness what happens to colleges in Scotland with the SNP in charge. All these excuses regarding budgetary constraints hardly make sense when you’ve had that long to address the problem… instead, per head, college students are funded the least. Why?

What are you doing to stand up for Further Education? Thought that was your remit? I used to be an SNP member and I feel genuinely saddened by how little the party seems to care about the college crisis. #ge24

SNP track record over the past decade on colleges doesn’t fill me confidence that you won’t continue the same cuts consistently made to the sector. As for post #ge24 plans, why not talk about your own party? Never mind Tories and Labour, what is the SNP planning for colleges?

My colleague @stell_garrett and I recently put together a week-long special on The State of Scotland's Colleges, and more stories have been added since then as the current crisis has continued.

Scotgov and CES, through their intransigence and obfuscation, are jeopardising the life chances of 236,730 college students (Source: Colleges Scotland website). This is beyond unacceptable. DOES ANYONE IN FE HAVE ANY CONFIDENCE IN THIS GOVERNMENT OR THIS ORGANISATION?

Distillery visits while public sector staff in the area you’re responsible for are out on strike? Stay classy man.

Hi Stewart you’re my local SNP candidate. Can I ask what you’re doing to resolve emergency in colleges - students about to fail, colleges going broke. I’m struggling to find any comment on a plan from SNP. Used to be SNP member but I am v worried/feel colleges are being abandoned

SNP voted against a motion that would compel them to intervene strike negotiations. Budget issues aside, I see no justification for their refusal to get involved in the crisis. Sent the message that they won’t even try. Sullies everything they say re. protecting public services.

Still you ignore the crisis in colleges? A literal public service you’re abandoning? Is the SNP plan to simply be silent on the issue until #ge24 is over? With colleges going broke and student qualifications on the line? I feel so let down by the party I used to be a member of.

I’ll enlighten as many people as I can regarding your inaction on college strikes and crippling underfunding. I’m former SNP member, still believe in independence, as do many of my friends and family. I’ll make sure they all know the situation so they can make their voice heard.

Where are the SNP’s principles? Colleges have been essentially shut for weeks but the SNP is completely ignoring the crisis. So the SNP’s principles on accessible adult education must be “let the students fail and try to hide that it’s going on from the public till after #ge24”?

What I find cringeworthy is that the SNP are blatantly ignoring a crisis right now in Scotland’s colleges, thousands of students face failing because the SNP refuse to intervene and properly fund colleges. It’s like they want to do as much damage to working class opportunities.

It could be argued that the gov should sit down and work on solutions to the funding crisis for colleges. While I appreciate that you’re replying to me, the responses read to me as “we’ve given up on properly funding colleges”. That’s it?

Surely by not intervening, ScotGov is not serving the public to the extent we need? Happy for fair taxation but right this minute it’s the decision of ScotGov not intervene in the current crisis that is shameful. This isn’t new. There have been strikes and cuts almost annually.
25
Isn’t this quite short sighted given education improves a person’s economic situ? ScotGov have a choice in how the money “we” have is spent. Surely the issue here is that you/the gov have not sufficiently prioritised college funding for years? Hence why “devalued” still feels apt

If you want young people to vote SNP, why are you ignoring the crisis in Scotland’s colleges? Thousands of young people about to fail their courses and you’re not intervening to properly fund the sector. I used to always vote SNP but right now your inaction makes that impossible.
