1. Many people have DM’ed me about my Substack + the private X account since last night’s podcast.
While the Substack = long-form articles, the private X account has proven incredibly important this week.
e.g. Yesterday, I shared new VLCC fixtures most people aren’t seeing:
“On the LRs: There simply aren’t enough owners willing to T/C. Most want to keep ships in the spot market, and the few who are willing [to charter out] are only willing at unbelievable rates, so the bid-ask spread is just too wide.”
“In 2025, Brazil accounted for 4.9% of global seaborne crude oil exports. 2026 so far has been even stronger, with exports in Jan-Sep 2026 up +23% y-o-y.” 🇧🇷
Ed Finley–Richardson retweeted
From the @WSJ: “Persian Gulf oil exports have surpassed prewar levels, as an improvised shipping system under U.S. protection is helping tankers move oil through one of Iran’s fiercest waves of attacks in the Strait of Hormuz.”

“In the current market, in which VLCCs can earn >$1m/day, there is an extreme “prompt delivery premium.” Secondhand vessels, which can be employed immediately in the current red hot market, are much more valuable than newbuildings for which you have to wait 3 years.”
