So much of history has been whitewashed for the sake of making it palatable for white consumption that we are starting to perpetuate things that are not only misconceptions, but outright lies. A lot of what you're told about protests, MLK, etc. is wrong. A thread.

In 2001 I was in Kindergarten. I didn’t vote on our flag. Neither did 1/3 of Mississippi’s eligible voting population. Stop hiding behind a vote taken almost 20 years ago.

As a reminder, in 2001 Mississippi residents voted to keep the flag’s current design. Governor Reeves has previously pointed to that vote. bit.ly/379NxBZ

This tweet is directed at a very specific audience: cis women who don't want to be transphobic but secretly feel like there's a grain of truth to the idea that trans women don't know what it's like to grow up in a female body and be mistreated because of it. I hope this helps.

A message from the Schitt's Creek team. #BlackLivesMatter #BlackTransLivesMatter
Text: Over the last week, our show account pages have remained dormant as our cast has been focusing on using individual platforms to raise awareness and donate on our own. However, the Schitt’s Creek team recognizes that it’s important to use this platform to amplify Black voices and circulate helpful information. With June 1st marking the beginning of Pride Month, it’s imperative to acknowledge and honour the immeasurable contributions made by Black trans women who started the Pride movement, which was, and still remains, a protest. We’d like to highlight the tagged worthy organizations that we have made donations to that deserve consistent support and awareness. We encourage our fans to support these causes however they can – whether that is reading up on them, following and engaging positively with their accounts, or donating. We have the most loving fans in the world and know that they will join us in working proactively every day to lead with love in order to overcome hate.

In honor of Pride, please enjoy this story from a few years back, in case there's anyone you know who might need to see it - your friends, your family, the author of a massively successful boy-wizarding book series. Really, anyone at all. youtube.com/watch?v=hmoAX9f6…

With trans issues trending, worth remembering there is an epidemic of violence against trans people of color—especially black trans women. I’ve been shocked, running stories on this going back years, how little attention it gets. The numbers show a crisis: hrc.org/resources/a-national…

If you want to direct your rightful anger over JK Rowling's latest anti-trans comments into something positive, support orgs that help Black trans people like @MPJInstitute, @blacktransusa, @TransJusticeFP, @Genderintell and @ukblackpride

JK Rowling continues to align herself with an ideology which willfully distorts facts about gender identity and people who are trans. In 2020, there is no excuse for targeting trans people.

The officers who murdered Breonna Taylor nearly three months ago still have not been charged. We can’t forget about Black women in our quest for justice.

I’m joining #8CantWait to urge local mayors to enact policies that have the power to reduce police violence that results in death in our major cities by up to 72%. I urge you to join me. We simply can’t wait — too much is at stake. Learn more: 8cantwait.org
Any elected official who doesn’t go on record right now denouncing this escalation of violence from the Trump admin, denouncing the use of military forces to attack its own civilian population for protesting police brutality needs to be removed from power asap. 1/
