Experts say you should wait 60-90 minutes after waking up before drinking coffee. But here’s the thing. No.

in hindsight it will be obvious that taste was the differentiator in most tech products and experiences. as intelligence became ubiquitous, software development (and soon consumer hardware manufacturing) became commoditized, it was the accumulation of small thoughtful decisions, restraints, and authentic stories and brand-signaled quality that made something coveted.

The way Steve taught us to care about every detail, every experience, every person, still guides our work today. Forever grateful.

Velez is one of the best CEOs out there today This is a great profile about him and the Nubank story
David Vélez is the founder of Nubank, a bank with 140 million customers and a market capitalization of $60 billion. When he started the business in 2013, no one thought it would work, not even his investors. He has faced down regulators, oligopolies, and corruption to build Latin America's largest digital bank. Now he is bringing Nubank to the United States, where he faces his biggest challenge yet. @gabi_imarques, who grew up four miles from Nubank's headquarters in Brazil, spent time with @velez_david in São Paulo, where the business started, and in Miami, its latest beachhead. She profiles a man who is no stranger to a fight, having grown up in Medellín, Colombia, when the city was at war with Pablo Escobar. Six-year-old Vélez would pull on layers of sweaters before stepping outside, hoping, as a child might, that the extra padding would cushion any bullets. colossus.com/article/david-v…

This paragraph by Kobe Bryant hits hard: “Everyone wants to be a beast. Everyone wants to be the best. But very few people are willing to do what it actually takes. Because what it takes is boring. It is waking up at 4:00 AM. It is shooting the same shot a thousand times. It is watching the film when you are tired. People fall in love with the result, but they hate the process. You have to fall in love with the boredom. You have to fall in love with the repetition. If you can find joy in the mundane work that no one else sees, the lights will eventually shine on you.”

Plugins again. Very interesting.
Powermove is out today. It's a video editor where the app itself is the thing you edit. The kernel is intentionally tiny. Timeline, effects, inspector, the UI, all of it lives in extensions on top. Ask the Powermove agent for a feature and it writes an extension, the same way we built the rest of the editor. After Effects won because of twenty years of plugins. We're trying to compress that into a prompt. Free, open source, by Iterative Computer.

At a lot of companies, the internal concepts look good but what ships lacks the same level of craft. This iPhone Duo transition is even better in the shipping form than what it looked like internally when I last saw it. This isn’t luck or something that occurs easily; people are putting in long hours to make this happen.
Holy shit this progressive blur effect when opening/closing the Duo is absolutely gorgeous

Jacob is correct here—we really do earnestly believe AI could kill all humans! I personally think it is >10% within the next decade. I believe Anthropic is trying its best, but we do not yet have a plan to solve alignment for superintelligence and are not clearly on track to.

DRAWING IS THINKING: The Bauhaus ▲⏹⏺ has always haunted me. A day of drawing (w/o the help of LLMs) helped me see that most everything to do with design can be encapsulated into those forms. The ▲ holds the essence of effective design; the ⏹ holds the shape of product simplicity; the ⏺ holds the winding cycle of the infinite journey. I'll elaborate on these figures in the 2027 designintech.report —JM

Interfaces that are generated, not coded. Solaris is our first step toward our vision of end-to-end neural software, where user interfaces are streamed directly onto your screen by a real-time video model, without any intermediate code or HTML/CSS. Today we're releasing a technical report and opening it up for limited testing by the community. Amazing work by the team, combining the best of our research in general world models with Runway's HCI spirit.
Today, we're sharing new research on Solaris, our first Interface World Model. Solaris is a new kind of operating system that generates interactive interfaces frame by frame, in real time, with no code. We find that Solaris outperforms frontier LLMs when generating new interfaces, across structural similarity and information retention. Read more and request early access at the link below.

adult life is basically an incredibly short loop disguised by changing details: wake up → make yourself presentable → work → eat with someone → go home → sleep → repeat. we imagine life as this enormous narrative, but most of it is just the same 5–6 human activities repeated thousands of times. the people, places, clothes, jobs, dinners change. but the underlying structure barely does. which is probably why tiny deviations feel so disproportionately meaningful like a trip, falling in love, a great conversation, quitting a job, or seeing something beautiful. they briefly break the loop.

probably the biggest misconception today is that everything will be chat chat is bad for discovery, chat is bad for repeating usecases, bad for multiplayer people love GUI. people love being passive. people love to scroll and tap-tap-tap vs. type. voice only works when you're by yourself. the list goes on. build a Mac, not MS-DOS!
Eventually, all UI will be chat and gestures in, chat and video out.
