This issue arises with barcode-based ordering, which is increasingly widespread. Anyone holding the barcode may begin ordering items at random, even without being inside the restaurant.

Looks like people on the internet either hate it or love Disclosure Day. We just watched it, and luckily we belong to the "love it" group. We didn't feel we wasted 4,400 yen on this Steven Spielberg movie. 😂

TIL Smart TV’s take occasional snapshots of what we are watching, even from connected devices. Turned it off immediately 😊
Your smart TV is watching you back. Not with a camera. With a feature most smart TVs ship with, and that most owners agree to during setup without reading a word. It's called automatic content recognition, or ACR. Your TV takes frequent snapshots of whatever is on the screen and matches them against a database. That covers streaming apps, cable, your game console, even whatever is plugged into HDMI. The data can then be used for ads and recommendations. Texas sued 5 major TV makers over it. Samsung settled. More lawsuits were filed this year. A privacy researcher told me: "It takes about 2 minutes to turn off. Most people have no idea which menu to look in." Here's how to turn it off on every major brand, plus 6 more settings to change tonight.🧵👇

There was a time when it was Gmail which knew everything about us through the keywords that we searched for. Now, it’s CharGPT or Claude which knows everything about us through our daily conversations with them. They may even know more about us than our closest friends. 🤔

I use Siri AI now for most basic stuff. I’m hopeful that their advertisement is true that they would be the privacy-focused alternative 🙏🏼

Been holding test KitaSoon events to test my web app in the wild. Feedback from actual users is always helpful in further improving it. I’m going to kaizen it until it becomes perfect 🤩

My plan is to replace my four-year-old iPad Air with an iPad mini. I realized the iPad Air is too big for my use case.

Received this random message from a Japan mobile number. Number is not in my contacts list, so I'm guessing it's a scam. I can imagine many people falling for this and would reply and start a conversation. I'm not engaging with this one.

One of our favorite dishes in Hanoi: Miến xào lươn, or stir-fried glass noodles with eel. Tried looking for a restaurant serving this in Tokyo. Seems none. 😢

Hmmm. I think I'm keeping our 3rd gen for a few more years. 😊

A friend was telling me he was able to buy round-trip tickets from Tokyo to Manila for just ¥25,000. Seems he was using AI to monitor the JAL website for promos. Need to start using AI to do that for me as well. 😂

I was early for my 7 PM tennis event, so I spent some of that time watching this pickleball event. It seems they got the Ariake indoor courts reserved for this event. Looks interesting 🧐

On our recent trip to Narita International Airport, we decided to just take the “low-cost bus” from Tokyo Station. It’s not as fast as the train options (SkyLiner or Narita Express), but it’s cheap at ¥1500 one way, it’s comfortable, and it does the job.

I like the vibe of Hanoi. It’s bustling and has character. It also feels safe, with no beggars on the streets.

If you just stay within Hanoi’s Old Quarter bubble, you would be treated to a chaotic yet very walkable city with endless options for food, cafes, and shopping. Once you leave this bubble, it feels like old Manila, the good and the bad. 😂

It’s already 2026 and those check-in terminals at Tokyo airports still do not work for me. They always have problems with my middle name. 🤦🏻‍♂️

AI Agents are Trojan horses seeking permission for full access to your whole computer. We need to be very careful who we give full access to. 🤔

Sometimes, organizers need a little help deciding when and/or where to hold an event. So I’ve added a new “Plan an Event” feature to KitaSoon to help with that. 😊

Looks like Dots is an impressive next-level personal assistant. Let's see how Siri AI evolves into a more privacy-focused version of this.
Introducing dots, powered by GPT-6 Astra. Remarkably capable, always-on agents built to handle everything.
