💫 It is finally out!✨
📘I am very glad to share that my #book, A Rights-Based Inter-Legal Approach to Artificial Intelligence, has now been published by @hartpublishing, Oxford.
This book explores how law can protect fundamental rights in a world increasingly shaped by algorithmic systems and automated decision-making. It provides the first account of inter-legality in the context of AI, examining its relevance to the fundamental rights challenges posed by AI systems.
I hope this work helps strengthen awareness of the urgent need to protect democratic safeguards in an era increasingly shaped by #AI. I very much look forward to the thoughtful, critical, and interdisciplinary discussions.✨

✨ In #Leiden today for the @ICON__S @ICON_S_Benelux Conference, “Trust in Transition: Public Law in a Changing World”
The programme provides a stimulating forum for examining how public law responds to changing relationships between trust, institutions and society, from digitalisation to sustainability and democratic accountability.
🗓️Tomorrow, I will be chairing the panel “EU Public Law after Digitalisation: Rethinking Decisions, Cooperation and Accountability”, alongside Katerina Pantazatou and Sarah Tas. Together, we will explore how digitalisation is reshaping EU public law, from AI-assisted decision-making in tax administration to European Boards and the oversight of administrative cooperation in EU digital regulation. I will also present my research on the CJEU’s recent technology jurisprudence, examining what cases concerning data access, 5G networks and algorithmic case allocation reveal about transparency, fundamental rights and the rule of law.
Looking forward to engaging discussions and catching up with colleagues!
Many thanks to the organising committee, Luísa Pinto e Netto, Melanie Fink, Franco Peirone, Patricia Popelier and Menelaos G. Markakis, for putting together such an exciting programme!

What a wonderful experience presenting my book, A Rights-Based Inter-Legal Approach to Artificial Intelligence (@hartpublishing), at the @EthicsInAI, @UniofOxford!
A full room, so many thoughtful questions, and stimulating discussions that continued well into lunch made the occasion truly special.
A big thank you to the Institute, as well as the entire event organising and IT teams, for making it all possible, both in person and online. Special thanks to Edward Harcourt, Caroline Emmer De Albuquerque Green, Federica Fedorczyk, Keri Grieman, Jacqueline Wright, Graham Bagley, and Bethany McWhinnie for their warm welcome and for making the experience so memorable.

📍 In #Oxford tomorrow
I am delighted to be presenting my book, A Rights-Based Inter-Legal Approach to Artificial Intelligence (@hartpublishing ), tomorrow at the @EthicsInAI, @UniofOxford, as part of its Michaelmas Term Seminar Series.
It is a particular pleasure to be back in #Oxford after spending May and June last year as an Academic Visitor at the Institute, returning this time to discuss my monograph and some of its core arguments, with a particular focus on the rights-based inter-legal approach to #AI governance and its implications for fundamental and human rights and the #EU #AIAct.
Many thanks for the kind invitation and to everyone involved in organising the seminar!
I am very much looking forward to the exchange and discussion that follows.

🚨NEW BOOK: AI in European Law is now published open access! ✨
📘 I am very glad to share that our volume, AI in European Law: A Deep View, is now published open access by Nomos in the Luxembourg Legal Studies series. Co-edited with Herwig Hofmann and Zahra Yusifli, it examines the capacity of European law to respond effectively to the expanding use of AI across different areas of EU law and policy.
Bringing together perspectives from public, private, and criminal law, the book explores AI in tax administration, labour rights and algorithmic management, data sharing in competition law, access to justice through large language models, legal personhood for autonomous AI systems, fraud detection, and smart contracts.
We are deeply grateful to the authors whose research made this volume possible: Arthur BIANCO, Zahra Yusifli Isabella Lorenzoni, Ph.D. Kalliopi Terzidou, Anna Moraiti Grazia Bruzzese, and Théo Antunes
In the concluding chapter, written with Herwig Hofmann, we examine the 'missing dialogues' between rights, risks, and remedies under the EU Artificial Intelligence Act. We argue that the EU’s commitment to human-centric AI governance requires fundamental rights to be concretised through meaningful safeguards, effective accountability, and access to justice.
The volume emerged from the research of the Digitalisation Law and Innovation (DILLAN) doctoral training unit, supported by the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR) , and took further shape through the workshop Frontiers of AI Law and Governance, held at the University of Luxembourg. We are deeply thankful to the judges, practitioners, and colleagues whose careful engagement and valuable insights enriched the contributions.
At its core, the book approaches AI regulation not merely as a technical exercise, but as a normative project concerned with balancing innovation, democratic control, and the protection of fundamental rights.
We hope that the volume will contribute to the continuing discussion on how law can and should respond to the digital transformation of society. ✨

«In sul fiume e quasi in aria», scrive Vasari: e davvero gli #Uffizi sembrano sospesi sull’Arno.
È il 1560 quando Cosimo I de’ #Medici gli affida il compito di riunire in un unico edificio gli uffici dello Stato fiorentino.
E da qui il nome Uffizi.

I had the chance to take a closer look at this course. The teaching methodology and the overall content are excellent and address a significant gap in this area. It is a truly important and timely initiative. @UniofOxford @UNESCO @EthicsInAI @oiioxford
Nearly half of judges worldwide already use AI tools, but only 9% have received formal training to use them safely.
Today, @UNESCO and the @UniofOxford launch AI, Justice and the Rule of Law, a first-of-its-kind online course to help judicial professionals navigate AI in justice systems. Developed jointly with @OxfordSBS, @BlavatnikSchool and @OxfordLawFac — and supported by the European Union, the course is now open for enrolment.
