Wondering what's hype & what's not in the latest content moderation debate?
Fighting hard for people's rights vs. algorithms but wanting more weedy technical detail?
Still concerned about dangerous filtering mandates?

"KOSA would also incentivize Big Tech platforms to engage in even more intrusive data collection, which disproportionately puts trans kids & their families at risk as more & more states move to strip us of our rights/criminalize our kids’ health care, education & very existence."

65 civil society groups call on Breton to walk back his rash remarks about Internet shutdowns & the DSA. The letter is powerful. The huge signatory list tells us how many activists around the world saw Breton’s remarks as a threat to them where they live.

Replying to @daphnehk
Authoritarians around the world will hear Breton’s message loud and clear:
(1) internet shutdowns are a permissible tool, and
(2) the DSA (and local copies) legitimates their use and rapid deployment in situations like the one in France. 🇫🇷 9/

Arbitrarily blocking online platforms is not justified under the #DSA!

.@CenDemTech's @ellanso: Civil society from across the Asia-Pacific region highlight the risk that @UNESCO's draft guidelines for regulating platforms could inadvertently bolster digital authoritarianism & anti-democratic regulation. UNESCO must listen to these serious concerns.
🔔 MMfD along with many other CSOs from Asia seeks to raise alarm on @UNESCO's proposed Guidelines for Regulating Digital Platforms.
They pose significant risks and offer no safeguards. #PushBackUNESCO #OpenLetter 🧵

💡🦾 Today, @CenDemTech is releasing a new report, “Lost in Translation: Large Language Models in Non-English Content Analysis” – a comprehensive look at how #LLMs try (and often fail) to understand text in languages other than English.

Thank you @SenAlexPadilla for entering the letter from 133 human rights orgs, released this week and led by @CenDemTech, expressing our continued concerns with the #EarnItAct. We'll say it once more – the bill is deeply flawed & should go no further. 🔊🔊

This is now the 3rd time the Senate has considered #EarnItAct. Here's just a few of the many times @CenDemTech & countless others held a light to the bill's flaws:

Recently, @tiktok_us launched an in-person Transparency Center in LA, where visitors can learn more about TikTok and how it operates. This is a refreshing take on the usually dense text-based reports, so why is its effectiveness limited? A post-visit reflection 🧵 1/
