neurodivergent people deserve to be trusted that they are capable and able to carry out their job functions. they may do it in a different way. they may break the unwritten rules. they may strictly follow rules others break. it may take them longer. they will get the job done.

The NDIS Review wants to force us to use registered providers. We all know how tragically that ended for Anne-Marie Smith. The evidence is clear, registration does not keep people safe. @Jen_Hargrave can explain. abc.net.au/news/2023-12-14/i…

So great to see someone finally talking about the invisibility of women and girls with disabilities in the #DisabilityRC #FinalReport @Jen_Hargrave This is a huge omission that has not had enough air time! @AfdoOffice #AFDOConference

People want survivors to be sympathetic figures. They want us logical, resilient, emotionally regulated, not too burdensome, grateful, forgiving, nice. Preferably attractive too. Fuck that.

To explain the clarity thing: you know how if you have bad eyesight and take your glasses off, you can see colors and general shapes, but you can't actually tell what the shapes are really? Being brighter doesn't solve this! Microphones are the glasses for your ears.
I am begging folks: If a workshop is providing and asking folks to use a mic, please do not refuse to use the mic and ask "can everyone hear me without this?" Just use the mic. Being heard is not just about the volume but also about the clarity of being able to hear the words.

Seems important to retweet this given the week. We’ve spent lots of time talking about #NDIS costs but none talking about outcomes. It’s not perfect, but the #NDIS changes lives, boosts local economies & reshaped our country. We can be proud, while we continue to reform. – at Brisbane, Queensland
I ❤️ the NDIS. I don’t think it gets said enough. It’s transformative. I couldn’t live without it. It has to constantly evolve to be better, but that’s to be expected. Don’t let the naysayers & attacks distract you from the extraordinary scheme we built, together.

Emotional costs to participants & families for endless allied health reporting. I live it at least annually Taxpayer pays. Has anyone worked out the costs of this bureaucracy? It Inflates plans because we need more money to comply with this nonsense. tinyurl.com/2r5u7sdk

Its so wonderful having people in the wheelchair accessible spaces watch me manoeuvre into the small space they've left for me then applaud me cos I did so well. How about when you see a wheelchair user get on the ferry amd you don't need the access you fuck off out of the space

I don’t know why I have to say this in 2023 but stop letting people who provide services to disabled people for a profit have the loudest contributions to decision making and problem solving of issues that face our community. Be serious.

So much of ableism under capitalism emerges out of two assumptions: (1) disability is the worst burden that could ever befall a person because it limits productivity, and 2) should disability happen to you, it’s naturally your own burden to bear because care is a commodity.

Beautiful, real, thought provoking. *puts teacher hat on* Teachers, this is a great super short film by a disabled creator to kick off conversation about the important of disabled creators and representation in film with your class.

Can anyone who is on the Uluṟu statement working group tell me what was done to try and get mob in prison the vote in the referendum? I’m pretty peeved that white fullas get to vote but mob serving time over three years don’t. It’s a voice for some but not all? 🙅🏽‍♀️#fail
