The basic intuition here will apply in many areas: we need AI symmetry between communicators to preserve commons of human reciprocity and judgement as scarce resource in specific contexts.
New essay: To keep human judgment, we need AI courts. AI-generated filings are starting to overwhelm courts around the world. The most popular response I’ve heard is to fight AI with AI: If we can just give judges the right tools and training, AI will help them keep pace. But this strikes me as the worst of both worlds. Because we want human judges in the loop, we don’t get the speed and scale benefits of AI. Yet because we expect them to resolve a massive number of cases quickly, judges (or their clerks) may end up leaning on AI more than they mean to or should. This essay offers another way: a parallel AI adjudication track. An AI track — inspired by AI use in private arbitration but formally part of the court system like magistrate judges — would let courts be explicit about how human judgment is allocated. Done right, this would allow courts to process large volumes of cases while ensuring human judges devote their full attention to the cases where their judgment is needed most. Every country that has built a politics on antizionism has destroyed its Jewish communities through violence, threats of violence, harassment and exclusion. Iraq, Iran, Egypt, Syria, Tunisia, the Soviet Union, etc. Jews know this.
After the Green Party's "Zionism is Racism" vote, the Leader of Haringey Council, which is controlled by the Greens, wrote to various Synagogues in the borough to "reassure" them. I want to show you Highgate Synagogue's reply. I believe it is worth reading in its entirety.

Most brands claiming that their milk, eggs, meat come from “humanely raised” animals are lying about filthy, crowded, and unspeakably cruel conditions. To put it more politely — humanewashing. @FarmForward new report.

Today, I stood before CEOs, researchers, and AI experts in Pittsburgh with a simple message: We need to take action NOW to rein in AI technology and regulate it at the federal level. Think about it: We don’t let pharmaceutical companies develop drugs and put them right out on the market, they must go through the FDA to prove they’re safe and effective first. And the FAA sets strict standards that every airplane must meet before passengers can fly on it. AI shouldn’t be treated any differently. With the online discourse on your feed over the weekend about the dangers of AI, I want to be clear: the future of a technology this powerful should be shaped by YOU — not CEOs who are more concerned about their bottomline than the impact this technology is having on our communities. We can’t kick the can down the road anymore. We need strict guardrails on this technology, its development, and its deployment in the real world. And every single one of us has a role to play in that effort. We can lead the way here in Pennsylvania.

Jacob is correct here—we really do earnestly believe AI could kill all humans! I personally think it is >10% within the next decade. I believe Anthropic is trying its best, but we do not yet have a plan to solve alignment for superintelligence and are not clearly on track to.

I'm re-reading the AI As A Normal Technology piece and associated responses/commentary, and I really do feel like that worldview aged pretty well in many important respects. Too many people get hung up on vibe and the word 'normal'. normaltech.ai/p/a-guide-to-u…

This is bone chilling Little Shop of Horrors. Labs have lost control of AI. 1. It’s alien and metastatic; 2. We’re fast losing alignment, monitoring; 3. But still have to progress AI for “defense” because no one is stopping; 4. Need internationally coordinated pacing to brake.
I wrote about the state of AI, why I’m concerned about the next few years, and the choices we need to make to keep the future in humanity’s hands. An Alien Mind: openai.com/index/an-alien-mi…

Powerful AI is being built right now with almost no federal oversight. @PublicKnowledge, a longtime safety watchdog, just backed my bipartisan FRONTIER Act as the strongest proposal yet to establish clear, durable guardrails. Congress must act before the next major incident.
The OpenAI–Hugging Face incident shows that the need for federal AI regulation and risk management is more pressing than ever. The FRONTIER Act could be a solution, Senior Policy Counsel @NicholasPGarcia argues in his latest blog post: publicknowledge.org/it-is-ti…
