If a child is not reading proficiently by 3rd grade, they are four times more likely to drop out of high school (source: Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy). SPEF wants to prevent this by giving children new, free books to encourage reading. 💙 #SPEF #EducateAndEmpower

We talk about innovation and creativity in education, but the reality is compliance is often the expectation and what is rewarded for admin, teachers, and students.

If only all districts had this mentality instead of continuing on like “normal” just so we can say “we made it thru all the curriculum”. I’d rather get they less material but have it mastered then do it all poorly...🤷🏼‍♀️
Food for thought. If 15% of students are deemed proficient, would you still try to cover 100% of the material? In a pandemic? In a normal year? Might you focus on the most important 25% of the material? 50%? 75%? Lots to think about!

No surprise here. It’s because all we do are curriculum assessments, progress monitor and district assessments, state assessments, school assessments and then more district assessments. No time to actually learn new material🤷🏼‍♀️.
NEW: 12th-grade #reading scores were lower in 2019 than in 1992. Among White, Black, and Hispanic students, declining scores were most evident among lower-performing students (i.e., those at the 10th and 25th percentiles). More: nationsreportcard.gov/highli… #edresearch #engchat

So it works! I picked up a mirror compact at Target this afternoon. Taped it onto my laptop. Hung it over the front camera. Now I have a document camera! #easypeasy #hack #vbits @vbschools @VBCPSDOT @vbcpsdtal
