Israeli "democracy": - 500,000 West Bank settlers can vote, but not the 3M Palestinians under occupation - 230,000 Israelis in occupied East Jerusalem can vote, but not the 350,000 Palestinians under their rule - The fewer than 2M Palestinians left in occupied Gaza cannot vote

Tactically I see it corners Erhürman + makes him look like the obstacle. Practically, everyone knows that a return of Varosha, which is de facto controlled by the Turkish military, won’t happen without a big carrot for Turkey (eg customs union upgrade) that isn’t there. #cyprob

The Greek Orthodox Monastery of Saint Catherine on Mount Sinai, the oldest monastery in the world which has existed and operated continuously since the 5th century A.D, with one of the most important libraries in the world, has definitively signed today an agreement with the Egyptian authorities to retain the historical rights it has held for 1,500 years. Let me remind you that no matter which conqueror passed through in the long history, even Muhammad, no one ever harmed this Greek Monastery, because of its history and spiritual significance. It's an UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was built between 548 and 565 AD. Inside this Monastery, there is one of the oldest known surviving depiction of Jesus Christ as Pantocrator dating from when the Monastery was founded by the Byzantine emperor Justinian I. - Homer Pavlos

Bank of Israel horrified by Netanyahu’s interview yesterday, just put out a statement saying “cryptocurrencies cannot be used as a way of bypassing sanctions on Israel. The right thing to do is safeguard Israel’s trade relations with major trade partners and prevent sanctions”
Netanyahu asked in an in interview how he’s preparing Israel’s economy for sanctions says he’s working on a “diversionary economy” for Israel using cryptocurrencies. Either he’s lost all understanding about how the Israeli economy works or he’ll say anything on the campaign trail

If, by the end of this decade, we haven't stamped out this horrendous racism, weaponised as a fascist tactic to convince society that immigrants are the problem, rather than those exploiting division to entrench their own power, wealth and that of their donors, at the expense of ordinary people, our environment and society itself, then I genuinely fear we'll have passed the point of no return. And this isn't just about Trump or America. It's happening across Europe, and right here in the UK, where the same politics of fear, scapegoating and division are increasingly being normalised. The greatest danger isn't simply the racism itself. It's what that racism is being used to distract us from, and what those exploiting it are getting away with while we're distracted.
Trump: "Somalia -- 98% of the people here now from Somalia don't work. They don't have to work because they steal so much. They all have a Mercedes Benz. Low IQ and they live better than you do."

Help get @abdulelsayed elected to the senate! Jewish safety depends on a real multiracial democracy—and Abdul is the one fighting to protect it. Get involved and help at abdulforsenate.com/vote go.abdulforsenate.com We know how much it matters to live in a country where our rights are protected, where the law applies equally to everyone, and where the majority can’t just decide that some people don’t deserve the same freedoms. The safety and freedom we’ve found in America didn’t happen by accident. They exist because of democracy. And protecting democracy means protecting Jewish safety, too. We know what happens when those protections start to break down. When courts are weakened, elections are undermined, and people lose equal protection under the law, minorities are often the first to pay the price. Jews have seen this throughout our history. It’s one of the reasons so many of our families sought refuge in democratic countries. That’s why I find it so alarming to see what’s happening right now. When masked government agents are taking people off the streets and citizens are being shot in public, we should all be worried about where things are headed. As Jews, we know that when a government starts targeting certain groups of people, no one should assume they’re safe from what comes next. Mike Rogers has chosen to align himself with a movement that is willing to attack our democracy. He stood with Trump and refused to accept the results of the 2020 election. And now we’re seeing what happens when a political movement treats the rights and dignity of certain people as disposable. For Jews, these things should set off alarm bells. Jewish safety is tied to the health of our democracy. We can’t protect one without protecting the other. And in this Senate race, Abdul is the candidate who understands that and is willing to fight for it. #abdulelsayed #democracy #jewish #midterms

“Do Palestinians have a right to defend themselves through armed struggle, if that’s what it takes? And if not, do you suggest they lay down and die and let their village get overrun and let Heidi Levine get killed and accept the fate that the settlers have in mind for them, which they will openly tell you is to wipe them off the map?”
“If those Palestinians hadn’t come and started throwing rocks, I probably would not have survived,” veteran Washington Post photojournalist Heidi Levine told Jasper Nathaniel after she was brutally beaten by Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank, according to Nathaniel. Speaking to Ben Rhodes on Pod Save the World, Nathaniel recounted the details of the October 16 attack on Palestinian olive harvesters, how Palestinian villagers risked their lives to rescue Levine, and how Israeli soldiers subsequently shot a Palestinian man and blocked paramedics. “Do Palestinians have a right to defend themselves through armed struggle, if that’s what it takes?” Nathaniel asked. “And if not, do you suggest they lay down and die and let their village get overrun and let Heidi Levine get killed and accept the fate that the settlers have in mind for them, which they will openly tell you is to wipe them off the map?” 🔗 Full interview linked in reply. @infinite_jaz | @brhodes
