Credible credit ratings are essential to financing Africa’s growth. At AfCRA’s Golden Hour leadership panel on institutional mandates for credit ratings, Mr. Denys Denya, Senior Executive Vice President, Afreximbank, called for assessments that reflect Africa’s economic realities and recognise the demonstrated strength of its institutions. Moderated by SABC journalist Ms. Sophie Mokoena, the discussion brought together Ms. Hanan Morsy of UNECA, H.E. Albert M. Muchanga, former African Union Commissioner for Trade and Industry, and others. The panel explored how AfCRA can strengthen investor confidence, deepen financial integration and support cross-border investment under the AfCFTA. Better understanding of African risk can help more capital reach the businesses and projects driving the continent’s development. #Afreximbank #AfCRA #FinancialSovereignty #AfCFTA #AfricanTrade

At a high-level roundtable on the #DeRriskingAfrica Initiative, @HananMorsy14 argued that Africa doesn't lack investable assets, it lacks the diversity of perspective to see them. Africa-based rating agencies bring the proximity, knowledge and credibility its story deserves.

#AfCRA isn’t just an institution. It's #Africa reclaiming its financial sovereignty. It's #Africa claiming the right to be assessed on facts, not perception. It's correcting unfair credit ratings that cost Africa about US$75 billion annually. Fairness depends on accuracy.

How can a credit rating shape your business growth? For businesses seeking financing, a credit rating can influence how lenders and investors assess risk, the cost of borrowing and the range of funding opportunities available. But credit ratings can also signal credibility to banks, suppliers and potential business partners, helping businesses build confidence as they expand. Across Africa, @APRMorg is working to expand credit rating coverage, unlocking opportunities for businesses to become visible to investors and access the capital they need to grow. #Afreximbank #AfCRA #CreditRatings #AfricanBusiness #BusinessFinance #AccessToFinance #Investment #AfricanTrade

Every human being has equal value. Every single one. At the United Nations General Assembly, I challenged a world that still decides whose lives deserve protection and whose suffering can be ignored. No race is superior. No people are disposable. Until we honour that truth, "everywhere is war" remains a warning we have failed to heed. What the world needs now is love, with the courage to confront injustice and defend our shared humanity. Love and a little kindness. For everyone.

Here is what you need to know ahead of the AfCRA offical launch next month.... What is AfCRA? The African Credit Rating Agency (AfCRA) is a continental institution headquartered in Mauritius created to provide sovereign and corporate credit assessments. The Problem: For decades, African countries and businesses have paid an unfair "risk premium" on global capital due to biased external ratings. The Solution: AfCRA delivers context-driven, objective, and realistic credit opinions grounded in African economic realities. The Impact: Fairer borrowing rates, stronger investor confidence, and true financial sovereignty for the continent. Save the Date: 7 October 2026 Location: Mauritius

I welcome the African Union’s announcement that the African Credit Rating Agency (AfCRA) will officially launch on October 7. @_AfricanUnion In February, I made the case in the Financial Times for an African credit rating agency. In May, at the Africa CEO Forum @africaceoforum in Kigali, I spoke again about the need for Africa to build financial institutions that understand our economies and can assess our risks properly. AfCRA is another step towards that goal. Africa is not asking for favourable ratings. We are asking for fair ratings, grounded in our fundamentals and in the reforms our economies are actually carrying out. AfCRA must now earn the confidence of global capital. That confidence will rest on its independence and the rigour of its work. I look forward to October 7. Bola Ahmed Tinubu President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria theasovil.la/pbatafcraFT
