The only one I'm going to get a boner over is the one that does all this for c# 🤷‍♂️I'm honestly a bit surprised MSFT hasn't pushed one out

Amazing how programming languages designed like bath houses end up catching all kind of infected packages

Coming in hot PhoenixmlDb XQuery & XSLT 2.7 for .NET: • Schema-aware typing: validated nodes carry their XSD types • W3C QT3 failures down from 427 to 257 • Hardened for untrusted queries & stylesheets • Synchronous XSLT API for desktop & plugin hosts phoenixml.dev/release-notes

This comes in a little too fast for my liking, having *just* released 2.6, but we needed to clean up a couple of things before getting the schema updates pushed into the repo.

Another note - AOT will provide performance improvements, and we're adding these as we go along, but I'm looking for better parser compliance before I start digging too deep into performance optimization. There's still quite a bit of ground to cover

Seeing an entire wall of AI safetyism posts that totally isn't a coordinated campaign

Omarchy? You mean Emacs for linux desktops?

I just refurbished a recently-deceased desktop into a local AI compute deity and installed Omarchy on it, and now I'm totally re-learning shortcuts. Not even mad - it makes total sense, but man it's a lot to take in all by itself, even the easy parts

Writing this down while it's fresh in my mind - I'm building an embedded XML/JSON database engine, and trying to find a licensing model for this kind of thing is the absolute trickiest thing I've tried to nail down

Oracle's licensing was suprisingly decent - "here's the zip file you jumped through hoops to get, build it to whatever 'edition' you need (split by transactions and replication), do what you like with it but check in with us before you go commercial"

Oracle's got strong enough enforcement to where they probably don't worry about that kind of thing much. But I don't have the enforcement, and I do worry about it. But maybe the worry is overstated - maybe 'getting used' is better than not getting used at all, at least in this case

If I could add one thing to the Microsoft Learn portal, it would be a comprehensive training course on MSBuild. It's easily one of the most complicated, feature-rich, and criminally underutilized parts of the development ecosystem.

they've all been ransomed lmao
Why are JavaScript people allergic to server side? Mention server side and they immediately treat you like an idiot. Clearly you can't build something that renders on a server.

Seeing enough disturbing news about Google Cloud randomly shutting down service/access to start seriously considering a vendor that DOESN'T do that. WTF
It is 2016. Google Cloud has put a major customer through some bullshit situation easily resolvable by literally one human It is 2020. Google Cloud has put a major customer through some bullshit situation easily resolvable by literally one human It is 2026. Google Cloud has p

Taxes are for assholes
We should federally tax Tokens at the Provider level. Not a lot. Less than 50c per million tokens. It will accomplish 4 things (at least ) 1. It will push the big AI players to optimize tokenization, caching , routing and localization Which will 2. Reduce energy usage. Saving them in energy costs more than what they paid in tax and reducing strain created by the growth in energy consumption Which will 3. Generate maybe 10 billion dollars a year to start, but over the next ten years could grow 30x to 100x Which will 4. Create a source of funding to pay down the federal debt or deploy, in response to the things AI brings that we don’t expect or don’t like At some point the models will pass it on to customers. Of course. That’s ok. Customers will have the ability to choose between providers. Or to do everything using open source models locally. Thoughts ?
