How did everyone spend their New Year? For me, I spent 5 hours on top of a cliff near Palm Beach under a single mistletoe waiting for this little brown butterfly. It’s Ogyris abrota, the Dark Purple Azure. All Ogyris are hard to find and harder to photograph so it was worth it!

We saw so many Rippon’s Birdwing butterflies in Sulawesi but as always they were constantly flying. Nearly all my photographs of this species were taken on the wing.

This is one b-a-g-utiful moth! ✨🦋
The Australian Bag Moth (Cebysa leucotelus) is named for the lichen 'bag' that its larvae build. 🛍
Neither male nor female adults ever eat, only living long enough to mate & produce eggs. ❤️🥚

Some years ago I came across the art of Hubert Duprat, a French artist that, in the 1980’s experimented with #EntoArt !
He raised #caddisfly larvae in aquariums full of gold, turquoise, opal, etc.,which the caddisfly used to build their cases.
