Nigeria/Biafra Civil War: My Experience Wars are remembered through dates, maps, and political decisions. But the true story of war is found in the lives of the men and women who stood on the front lines. In Nigeria/Biafra Civil War: My Experience, Achike Udenwa takes readers into the heart of one of Africa's most devastating conflicts. This is not a secondhand account or a reconstruction based on archives. It is the gripping testimony of a soldier who fought, commanded troops, planned military operations, and survived the Nigerian-Biafran Civil War. From the uncertainty of a young cadet thrust into battle to the immense responsibilities of military command, Udenwa recounts the realities of war. He reveals the courage and sacrifices of ordinary soldiers whose stories have rarely been told, while providing an insider's view of the platoons, companies, battalions, and brigades that carried the war on their shoulders. Far more than a military memoir, this book challenges familiar narratives by exposing the gap between official histories and the lived experiences of those on the battlefield. It explores leadership under impossible circumstances, the cost of conflict, the strength of the human spirit, and the decisions that shaped lives long after the guns fell silent. For readers seeking to understand the Nigerian-Biafran Civil War from the inside, this is an indispensable account. Rich in firsthand detail and historical insight, it offers a rare perspective that will engage historians, military professionals, students, and anyone interested in Nigeria's past and its legacy. Some books recount history. This one places you in the middle of it. About the Author Achike Uzoma Udenwa was born in Amaifeke, Orlu, Imo State, Nigeria. He attended Government College Umuahia, where his early military training as a member of the school's cadet unit, affiliated with the 1st Battalion of the Nigerian Army, laid the foundation for an extraordinary journey. When the Nigerian-Biafran Civil War broke out, he joined the II Battalion of the Biafran Army in Onitsha as an instructor before being commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. Rising to the rank of Captain, he served in several critical command and operational roles, including Platoon Commander, Company Commander, Battalion Commander, and General Staff Officer III (Operations) of the 52 Brigade. Decades later, he would serve his country, as the elected Governor of Imo State from 1999 to 2007. This is his story. Nexus: A Brief History of Information Networks from the Stone Age of AI Yuval Noah Harari’s book, Nexus, explores humanity’s extraordinary voyage into the information era. For the last 100,000 years, we Sapiens have accumulated enormous power. But despite all our discoveries, inventions, and conquests, we now find ourselves in an existential crisis. The world is on the verge of ecological collapse. Misinformation abounds. And we are rushing headlong into the age of AI—a new information network that threatens to annihilate us. For all that we have accomplished, why are we so self-destructive? Nexus looks through the long lens of human history to consider how the flow of information has shaped us, and our world. Taking us from the Stone Age, through the canonization of the Bible, early modern witch-hunts, Stalinism, Nazism, and the resurgence of populism today, Yuval Noah Harari asks us to consider the complex relationship between information and truth, bureaucracy and mythology, wisdom and power. He explores how different societies and political systems throughout history have wielded information to achieve their goals, for good and ill. And he addresses the urgent choices we face as non-human intelligence threatens our very existence. Information is not the raw material of truth; neither is it a mere weapon. Nexus explores the hopeful middle ground between these extremes, and in doing so, rediscovers our shared humanity. Ojukwu: Exile, Diplomacy and Survival This is an ode to human survival and revival. The author deployed intelligence gathering, strategic local and external security maneuvers, as well as international media engagements and diplomatic shuttles to the termination of the former Biafran leader's exile. Readers will find the politics and dramatis personae of Ojukwu's pardon quite intriguing. They put a lie to the notion that tribe was always the bane of Nigerian politics. Patriots from across the divides made General Ojukwu's return not only possible but also a national celebration. This book is a must-read for glimpses into how the Nigeria/Biafra war was won and lost, and the steps taken by even those blamed for it to engender reconciliation in the polity. — Felix Oguejiofor Abugu, Former Editor, The Guardian on Saturday and MD/Editor-In-Chief, AbeyaNews online. Just years after the civil war, a patriotic ethnic mix of Nigerians worked for lasting national unity by ensuring General Ojukwu's return to his fatherland. This rebukes the sundering of Nigeria through subsequent decades, a dire warning that the country must be pulled from the brink. Otherwise, disintegration looms… — Chuks Iloegbunam, author of Ironsi: Nigeria, The Army, Power and Politics The Author: Kanayo Esinulo earned a reputation for committed electronic and print media journalism before veering into public relations, where he also excelled. In Biafra, he worked at General Ojukwu's State House. When the republic capitulated, he followed the Biafran leader to Côte d'Ivoire and served as one of his closest aides throughout his years of exile. This captivating book is on the years of exile and the deft moves that led to Ojukwu's return to Nigeria in 1982. Nnamdi Azikiwe: Architect of Liberation, Journalism, and a New African Consciousness Zik's outspokenness came at a cost. In 1936, he was jailed for sedition in Ghana after publishing an article titled “Has the African a God?”, written by I.T.A. Wallace-Johnson. Despite the setback, Zik's conviction was overturned on appeal, and upon his return to Nigeria in 1937, he established the West African Pilot, a newspaper that would revolutionize Nigerian journalism. #StateAffairs
