A paper cut silhouette! A series of these where made by Russian artist Dmitry Iosifovich Kiplik at the beginning of the 20th century. It's likely the full series had twelve different scenes, but it seems five of them have been lost to time.

La Hurle, 1910, print by Jeans Veber. I'm not sure what this is satirizing exactly, but it struck a chord with me today. Will have a number of reproductions of Veber in the shop soon.

"Luftträger," 1914, gouache by Fidus. His interest in Theosophy and mysticism are prominent in a lot of his work. This one makes me think of Alex Grey.

Pandemic mood in the chemistry lab where I work when I'm not building a weird art print side hustle. Plate from a book of paper cut silhouettes by Walter Draesner, Ein Totentanz published in 1922.

An etching by Martin van Maële for the 1911 edition of Le Sorcière by Jules Michelet! Digitizing the volume is in the works. So many little details. The dancing frogs in this one are amazing.

Mahlon Blaine illustration for a 1927 Christmas issue of Country Living. I've never seen another depiction of Santa's elves as wigged insects, but I think it should be Christmas canon that this is what they look like.

Another amazing illustration by Kawanabe Kyosai, from a book of wood block prints made in 1881. Huge fan of the rice bowl monster.
