This is the worst time in history to have a 10-year plan.
5 years ago nobody had heard of an AI agent.
Today one person can ship what used to take a 10-person team.
The jobs, tools and companies that will matter in 2036 probably don't exist yet.
So stop planning a decade ahead.
Plan for 12 months.
Learn fast.
Build in public.
Stay ready to switch.
The people who adapt fastest will beat the people who planned best.
These bombastic predictions on AI obliterating jobs, deleting money, and bringing forth a ̶d̶y̶s̶t̶o̶p̶i̶a̶ utopia where technology does all the work and we all just lay about eating grapes and frolicking in the pool remind me of a conversation I once had with my pediatrician.
Donkeys, dirt tracks, mountain passes, hand-written booklets, illiteracy, weeks of transit, corruption, scarcity. He was gentle with me. Kind, even. But he made sure that I understood that my idea was so galactically blind that it was downright insulting.

Everyone keeps pointing to the collapse in emerging VC managers as evidence that venture fundraising is dying.
But I think we’re missing a big part of the story.
Most smaller emerging managers weren’t raising primarily from pensions and endowments. They were raising from family offices, founders, and wealthy individuals.
And those investors haven’t necessarily stopped investing. Many have simply changed how they invest.
Why commit millions to a 10-year blind-pool fund when you can pick individual deals through SPVs?
Yes, institutional capital has moved upmarket. But I suspect a meaningful amount of the capital that once backed emerging managers has moved into SPVs, direct investments, and syndicates.
The number of funds closing is down dramatically. That doesn’t tell us how much capital has actually left the market versus how much has simply moved outside traditional fund structures.
That’s the data I’d really like to see.
