Since some of you had asked what I had thought about the recent China-Pakistan joint statement #CPEC @asfandyarmir
“The adjective “highest” to describe Pakistan’s priority in China’s foreign relations
has been omitted in recent statements.” thediplomat.com/2024/06/is-c…
While media collaboration has existed between both countries to counter negative news on #CPEC , the "trade portal" or 2nd pillar will be interesting to watch in the newly launched #CPIC

Whoever has written this piece, is spot on. China has around 1.125 billion internet users and the world's most active environment for social media
"For Pakistan-China relations, this represents a modest but tangible form of digital cultural exchange."
Pakistani creators are using Mandarin-language videos to introduce Pakistan’s culture, food and everyday life to Chinese audiences. 🇵🇰🇨🇳
Through platforms like Bilibili, digital storytelling is creating new connections beyond diplomacy and official exchanges.

The question is Shiwei, what will the train carry back to China from Afghanistan as all countries need a healthy trading relationship.

China launches a new freight train route, linking Shandong province to #Afghanistan, bringing daily necessities to local people.
Carrying goods valued 8 million yuan (around $1.1 million), the train is scheduled to arrive at the Hairatan dry port in northern Afghanistan in about 20 days.

China has different terms to distinguish being Chinese by nationality, ethnicity, and ancestry. I just realized how distinctive this everyday vocabulary is compared with most countries/languages* when I read a discussion about it on Kuaishou.
> 中国人 (Zhōngguórén): This just refers to a Chinese person, usually referring to the Chinese nationality, but could also indicate Chinese identity more broadly.
> 华侨 (Huáqiáo): This refers to overseas Chinese, they still have Chinese citizenship while settled abroad.
> 华人 (Huárén): Usually refers to Chinese overseas who acquired foreign citizenship. Can also refer to an ethnically Chinese person, regardless of citizenship (although more precisely, there's 外籍华人 for foreign citizens of Chinese descent).
> 华裔 (Huáyì): This refers to people of Chinese descent, like the (grand)children of Chinese emigrants, emphasizing ancestry.
* (Japanese also has one specific word for a person that isn't a Japanese national but has Japanese ancestry 日系人, as does Russian).

China’s military during their recent joint exercise with Pakistan in Xinjiang were impressed with their counterparts knowledge. Episodes such as this in Gwadar helps explain why they have so much experience

Yesterday’s counterterrorism operations in Gwadar having successfully secured the area and repelling the failed BLF (Fitna al-Hindustan) terrorist attacks ended with EIGHT (8) dead terrorist combatants.
The killed terrorists included a female terrorist combatant.
Clearance operations in the surrounding areas of Gwadar are also progressing to find their facilitators.
Interesting details!
“…When we enter a building and throw a grenade, we throw it far; they throw it at the ground so it bounces at speed, ricocheting two or three times instead of staying in one place. That effectively stops the enemy from picking it up and throwing it back,"”
New footage from the #ChinaPakistan #Karakoram2026 joint army training exercise shows a Type 08 IFV fitted with a roof cage and side grilles to counter drone attacks, with drone swarms and robot dogs also deployed in live drills. An expert said such adaptations reflect lessons drawn from real combat. #GTMilitaryWatch globaltimes.cn/page/202610/1…
Well how about that! Both sides selected woman representatives to address counterterrorism matters and joint efforts to address them. #womenindiplomacy

Bill Clinton:
I'm tired of people denigrating Muslims for being Muslims.
The Quran says, and I first heard this from my daughter, who read the Quran from start to finish when she was 15 years old, and she said, "Read this."
Allah put the different people on the earth not that they might despise one another, but that they might come to know one another and learn from one another.
There are bad actors in every faith because we're all flawed human beings.
But the religious wars, the culture wars, I'm just tired.

Hutongs refer to old narrow alleys in the Old City. Starting from the 1990s the old city was subjected to massive demolition, reconstruction & gentrification. A large number of hutongs that still exist today cater to tourists… like this one 👇🏼3/n
Pakistan learned the lesson Ukraine has recently learned about relying on US tech during the Kargil episode. According to some it is the reason why Pak ditched the US GPS in 2014 turning to China’s Beidou instead. Satellite sovereignty ultimately should be the end goal for all.
Restrictions on Ukraine’s military use of SpaceX’s Starshield appear to be deliberate and not the result of any technical problems, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said. Listen to that and the latest stories from Bloomberg News Now. bloomberg.com/news/audio/202…

New: China’s MOFCOM published new proposed export control measures that cover AI technologies. Some reporting on WeChat indicates that tech covered under the proposed export prohibitions includes large models trained on “core data” as defined in China’s Data Security Law as well as AI agents designed for use in sensitive sectors. One read could be that the measures will try to control the risks of open source models. Some quick takes 👇
