This is probably true. The problem is Albertans rejected Premier’s proposed constitutional changes (Qs 6-9). Leadership means getting the feds to the table. But we haven’t seen a groundswell since Reform - where is Reform when we need it?

'Huge mistake' to assume decisive Alberta referendum means West is happy: Preston Manning edmontonjournal.com/news/can…
Amazing result! Better times for B.C. ahead! ☀️🏔️👏
Thank you, British Columbia.
Tonight, you voted for change. You voted for a government that will listen, keep life affordable, and never take your hard-earned money for granted.
I want to thank every volunteer who knocked on doors, made calls, and put up signs in the rain. I want to thank our candidates, who stepped forward in a snap election with no time to spare. And I want to thank my wife Shelley and my family for standing beside me every step of the way.
To those who didn’t vote for us: I will work just as hard for you. This is your government too.
The work starts now. Let’s get to it.
💯 Our leaders need to work hard over the next months and years to ‘put the cat back in the bag’ and show Albertans ‘on the ground’ that this province works best in Canada as a leader, not follower.

Unless the movement is thoroughly repudiated, the referendum could be just the end of the beginning

Well written! Let’s lead, not leave in Canada.

Editorial: A province and country worth fighting for calgaryherald.com/opinion/ed…
This feels a bit like 🇨🇦 🙃. Hoping Albertans soundly reject this risky gambit of a referendum and move on to building a better province.

It cannot be understated: our broken immigration system has caused high unemployment, high home prices and high inflation. It must be fixed and provincial rights strengthened.
Today, the Prime Minister got a copy of our referendum questions including the 9 on immigration and constitutional reforms. If Albertans give us a strong mandate on these questions, our government will get right to work on these needed reforms.
And as I’ve said many times, please vote for Option 1, a strong Alberta within a united Canada, and yes to the rest! 🍁
A good reminder from @CanadaWestFdn about the potential costs of separation for Alberta, including legal quagmire of negotiations, billions in immediate costs, increased public debt and lost GDP. A sobering reminder for anyone considering Option #2.

This is a great chart. All provinces except Alberta 40%+ of GDP attributed to government spending. We need substantial reduction in government spending across ALL governments in Canada to bring back competitiveness. Can we get voters to buy in? 🇨🇦
#cdnpoli #ableg #abpoli
The data is clear: total government spending in 2024 was far above the level that maximizes economic growth. Optimal range? 26%–30% of the economy (GDP). Reality across provinces? 30.4% to 61.2%.

This is a story that needs to be told. Tariffs and counter tariffs make good politics but they make horrible policy. Let’s get our leaders back to the table and get a deal done! 🇨🇦 🇺🇸 🤝

It’s sad that the party of Harper and Mulroney is giving up so much ground to the Liberals on the ‘let’s make a deal’ with US narrative. Time we got back to basics as Conservatives and find a way to break through with our long standing allies and friends. 🇨🇦 🇺🇸 🤝

The name Lake Ontario comes from the Wendat word Ontari’io, which, appropriately, means “the lake is beautiful, the lake is big”.
The name is more than 400 years old, predating both the Confederation of Canada and the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America.
We know that America is changing. Their trading relationships, their foreign policies, their national monuments, their hydronyms.
Canadians also know that naming reality means calling it Lake Ontario – then, now and always.
Good read! Unless AB wants to export oil and gas exclusively to the United States through new pipelines (which access is not guaranteed) or face materially negotiated (or perhaps denied) access through the ROC, separation is an exercise in futility.

“For an independent Alberta, the central problem would remain what it has always been for landlocked states: geography creates dependency, and international law can mitigate that dependency, but it cannot make a sovereign neighbour act against its own interests,” writes MLI Senior Fellow Rob Huebert for Inside Policy.
