We built a palette system for our UI and have some fun ideas for how we can use it. But now we need to decided what colours to use by default.
Help us decide which colour scheme we should use for our UI! Vote for your favourite in the poll below! #screenshotsaturday #gamedev

I wrote this up for reddit, but maybe people here will find it interesting or helpful. We added a ramming maneuver to our deckbuilder. But it came with a nasty bug that was particularly difficult to track down due to some Unity quirks. A thread. 1/6

Takeaways: - Bad floating point values in a Transform or RigidBody can lead to hard crashes in Unity - Unity prevents these values from being assigned when running in Editor, but not in builds - Always watch out for divide by zero edge cases 5/6

Finally: If you ever see even a single error in your Editor Console that looks like `rigidbody.force assign attempt for 'Object' is not valid. Input force is { Infinity, Infinity, Infinity }.` for the love of god listen to it 6/6

Launch discounts on Steam are now displayed as INTRODUCTORY OFFER! Nice little flavour to differentiate them from normal discounts.

I want to talk a little about the danger of false positives in game development. This isn't meant to be a downer thread, but it's something I've been thinking about a lot and noticing in terms of trends from 2021 and heading into 2022, but spans back a few years.

Apparently Steam no longer shows the Weeklong Deals banner in the Special Offers section of the front page. It used to be a standard feature on Mondays, but in July Valve shifted "Midweek Madness" promos from starting Tuesday to starting Monday, and then dropped Weeklong Deals.

I haven't asked for confirmation that this is an intentional change and not a bug. But a developer on the Steamworks forms said they had the change confirmed by Valve support staff. It's frustrating. This is the opposite direction from what I would like to see from Steam.

For those coming to this thread from Jake's Information Roundup (thanks @GreyAlien!), the trend of the Weeklong Deals banner being missing has mostly continued: teapawt.net/erikejohnson/status/14…

The banner came back for two weeks but then went missing again. What's going on? Maybe it is programmed to turn off if there is something else scheduled? And now that Midweek Madness banners start on Mondays, Weeklong Deals always defaults to off? I'm just guessing here.
