Looks like the Budget's been leaked 👀
🚨 NEW: John Healey is set to announce the following in his Budget later - The gas standing charge will be scrapped to save £27 a year on a typical bill - Green levies on energy bills will be scraped "for good" - NHS prescription charges will be frozen at £9.90 for another year - Poorer households on benefits will receive extra help with energy bills before January's sharp rises - The VAT cut on electricity bills, which was due to expire in April, will be extended (though it's not clear if this will be announced in the Budget or separately) - The Government will remove the link between gas and electricity prices, which currently inflates household bills, "in the long term" - Banks will face higher taxes, with the surcharge on their profits potentially rising from 3% to 8%, making it the Budget’s biggest revenue raiser - HMRC will be given powers to seize money from the bank accounts of people who fail to pay their tax - The freeze on rail fares will reportedly not be extended beyond April - Online retailers like Amazon, eBay and Temu will be made responsible for collecting unpaid VAT from sellers to fund a cut in business rates for high street shops - The thresholds for income tax will be frozen again so another half a million people may be dragged into the higher rate - January's planned increase in fuel duty will be cancelled - Pensioners relying solely on the state pension will see their tax-free allowance rise to £13,036, in line with the pension increase, so they don't pay income tax - Billions in long-term borrowing to invest in defence firms and raise the share of GDP spent on defence (without breaking fiscal rules, as the investments are expected to generate returns) - The upcoming "Your First Home" scheme will be made more generous to provide greater support for middle-income earners - The Budget will also assume the Rosebank oil field is approved, which will generate "significant tax revenues"

UK Parliament has mentioned Gaza more than the NHS or immigration. In the Commons, Gaza racked up 9,228 mentions in roughly the first 10 months after the 2024 election — more than immigration/asylum (~5,700) or the NHS (~5,300). A year on, it is still regularly debated: ceasefire, aid, arms, RAF flights, inquiries. This is a conflict 2,000 miles away with no British troops on the ground, no UK territory at stake, and no direct threat to Britain. Domestic problems — waiting lists, housing, borders — keep getting ignored.

The price of natural gas is the same all across Europe. That the UK's sky high electricity prices are 'because of the price of gas' is self-evidently untrue. Other countries pay the same gas prices but have much lower electricity prices. We must look elsewhere for the cause of our predicament Could it be our 'world-leading' renewables?

Oh FFS. Is anyone else getting really sick and tired of our utterly useless government, who just keep giving away our stuff to whoever bloody asks??? Why should British taxpayers subsidise the education of European students??? Pay for your own kids! thetimes.com/uk/politics/art…

Oxford Street is being pedestrianised, so pedestrians can now enjoy the fresh thrill of being mown down by bikes instead of a bus. Another triumph of planning by people who apparently never walk anywhere. Could they not at least have put in a proper, segregated bike lane? Now pedestrians are left dodging bikes, while phone thieves can help themselves to a ready-made hunting ground. Oxford Street: pedestrianised on paper, free-for-all in practice. Who thought this was a good idea?
Oxford street tonight …what could possibly go wrong??

For anyone not keeping up - the "Summit" in November isn't actually where negotiations take place. The negotiations are happening now, in the background, and have been for many many months. The "Summit" is where the leaders shake hands and have a press conference. So more LIES
Jonathan Reynolds suggests free movement will be on the table in talks with the EU at the summit this year.

“You just spooked everyone by saying stockpile (for a crisis)” Andy Burnham:- <Smug look & laughs knowingly> “It’s a challenging World” The UK PM treats the Public with absolute contempt after telling everyone they need to “prepare for a crisis” - now we can’t even keep a straight face‼️ The Big Bamboozle

All these demands from Burnham about moving closer to the EU - but it wasn't in 'his' manifesto. He either needs to shut-up or call a General Election. It really is that simple.
Labour manifesto, 2024. Couldn't have been clearer.

To think that the Prime Minister used to be so strongly against free movement of people in the EU as it was bad for his constituents. Is Leigh that far from Makerfield? (No, part of Leigh went into Makerfield in the last boundary changes).
There is nothing socialist about a system of free movement that is used by multi-nationals to undermine wages. WATCH my Brexit speech today.

This is an outright lie from the Prime Minister, on national TV this morning. Brexit did not cause the small boats crisis. It started three years before we left. He knows it is a lie. We know that he knows it is a lie. He knows that we know it is a lie. He just doesn't care.
BREAKING: "I will never move ahead of the British public when it comes to Brexit." The PM has ruled out re-joining the EU within 'this parliament', but he would 'like' to see the UK return in his lifetime. trib.al/apj80h1 📺 Sky 501

On @BBCr4today Jim O'Neill, former Goldman Sachs chief economist, claims that Britain has suffered economically from Brexit but then tells us that we have the fastest growing economy in the G7. Typical inconsistent nonsense from an 'economist'.
