After months of shooting and editing, there’s nothing better than reaching the credits on a new short doc project. More details will drop next week as the editing continues. First reactions have been incredible so far!
It’s game time, and the Halloween squad brought their A-game! No flags on this play, just loud cheers, plenty of spirit, and to winning Halloween!
Thanks to Abram Anders, Professor of Innovation at ISU, for joining me on the AREA Podcast! We dedicated the entire episode to AI, where we should (and shouldn't) use it, and whether this technology will ultimately be our best friend or worst enemy. Episode drops next week!
It’s one of the best traditions of the year. Shout out to the Iowa State University Cyclone Marching Band!
The fourth annual neighborhood Halloween portrait will be unveiled Saturday morning. After journeys through Hogwarts, Oz, and carting on Rainbow Road, this year’s image is perhaps the most competitive of them all.
Thanks to Ed Brands, Associate Professor of Environmental Studies at the University of Minnesota Morris, for inviting me to speak to his Industrial Ecology class about our short documentary film, Urban Mining.
Great turnout and conversation in Jefferson last night about marketing and social media! I enjoyed sharing my “Building a Social Media Toolbox” presentation and exchanging ideas. Thanks to Greene County Development Corporation and Jefferson Matters for bringing everyone together!
Recently, I was on location at Sign Pro - Ames to chat with Steph Nigh. You’ve probably seen their work all over the place! I’ve had the opportunity to work with Steph, and Sign Pro is a great local business story. Look for it in a future issue of Traction later this year!
One of the joys of producing Traction magazine is visiting places I might not otherwise have the opportunity to see. Recently, hat included Amcor where I learned how they produce more than 1.5 million bottles for beverage brands like Gold Peak Tea.

It was the final Saturday of the 2026 season of the Ames Main Street Farmers' Market. Great weather led to a wonderful turnout. Elias was the official photographer of the Pet Costume Contest and totally rocked it! A huge shoutout to Lojean Petersen on another great season!
Great updates at the Ames History Museum board meeting tonight! The team does a wonderful job of preserving, curating and sharing our community’s history through engaging programming, social media and so much more.
I'm excited to share that the Ames Documentary Film Festival is already looking ahead to year two in 2027!
Filmmakers, keep these key dates on your radar as you work on your next project.
A week and a half ago, the Dogtown Rhythm Band had a great set during the 2026 Iowa Blues Challenge at xBk Live. Here are two more great shots courtesy R.K. Anderson and Mark Lage.
It was a ton of fun with Tom Buckmiller, David Lubbers, Ronley King, and Jordan Gould.
The year-long journey of Leadership Iowa kicked off last week in Oskaloosa. It was an intense couple of days, but the 45th class is an incredible group of people. I’m excited to travel across the state, learn from the program and participants, and see what the year ahead brings!
I recently spent time and had a great conversation with Tyler Farner of Farner Storage. For Tyler, Ames has always been home and it was cool to unpack his journey and how he’s giving back. Traction story out later this year.
West Street Deli is a Campustown staple, and it was great to work with Matthew White on this story. I love laying out magazine spreads, especially when the photography takes center stage.
This Traction story is now online so check it out:

It's a point of pride that the reviews we got about the inaugural Ames Documentary Film Festival from filmmakers focused on clear and concise communication.
