🚨 It’s #NationalPetDay — and your dog’s shampoo might be more toxic than your floor cleaner. No regulation. No banned ingredients. No environmental oversight. Let’s talk about the dirty truth behind pet grooming products. 🧵👇 1/7

💡 There’s more regulation on a bottle of human face wash than on what we lather onto our puppies. Read that again. 6/7

On this #NationalPetDay, let’s go beyond the cute pics. Demand: ✔️ Ingredient transparency ✔️ Human-grade safety standards ✔️ Eco-conscious formulation If we wouldn’t put it on ourselves—why put it on them? 7/7 #PetSafetyMatters #EcoPet #WaterPollution #GreenBeautyForPets

Important safety update regarding Salicylic Acid and children aged 3 to 10 years #skincare #skincaresafety
Yet previously, because we had missing data from the age bracket 3 to 10 years a warning for products containing Salicylic Acid stated it was not suitable for 3 years and below This warning was misleading indicating it was safe for 3 years and above So all this time that wasn't the case as its now determined it's NOT SAFE for 3 to 10 years It's positive move but why take so long to do a review on this age bracket when labels were telling consumers it was safe! #productsafety #childsafety #sccs

We have an illusion that in the UK we have strict product safety That's not the case – at Solihull, England
How can a market this size be unregulated! The UK pet grooming products market size was estimated at USD 1.19 billion in 2023 and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 4.8% from 2024 to 2030. There is currently no regulations in the UK or EU regarding pet topicals and this is the implications: Human Impact 👤 Although the product is intended for the animal it is applied via the owners which results in human contact. As no allergens are listed this could result in the owner having allergic reactions to the product the definition of a cosmetic product Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 defines a cosmetic product as "any substance or mixture intended to be placed in contact with the external parts of the human body These products do exactly that and would be classed as a cosmetic product so why do we have no safety legislation Laboratories are unable to provide any form of safety assessments because the legislation is non existent Environmental Impact 🌎 Many products are wanting the natural status so they use ingredients like essential oils. These type of ingredients require notification to poison control during product registration if they exceed 0.5% and some require notification regardless of concentrations too This is because they can have Impact on aquatic life and it needs monitoring whats being released to the environment it's not just the concern of essential oils as the most popular products are dog shampoos and all those ingredients are being washed down the drains straight into our waterways with no idea what they contain 10 000 dog groomers are registered in the UK, let's say they all use 1L of shampoo per day, that's 10,000L of unmonitored products entering the environment daily Animal Impact 🐶 As no laws are in place all sorts of products are on the market that has no safety checks that ingredients have been used in correct concentrations and pose a health risk to your dog I have purchased a freshener in the past for my dog and it burnt his skin where I applied. My thoughts from reviewing the product was the essential oils were not diluted correctly and the reason his skin was red raw People make these products themselves and then sell them on socials like tiktok as I see loads but they can do this with no implications at all because there is no safety legislation This first came to my attention in 2019 and once brexit happened and we split from the EU, it provided opportunity to introduce safety regulations on these products in the UK Sadly it hasn't happened or even been a discussion on the table which baffles my mind @OfficeforSandS we urgently need this market regulated #cosmeticregulation #productsafety #regulationuk #pets #animalprotection #safeskin #legislationuk #timeforchange #petshampoo #doglovers #allergens

And this is why we have bmnever used palm oil because we don't trust RSPO certification Landgrabbing, human rights and labour breaches from companies not to mention the pesticides leaked into local water supplies It's not ethical or sustainable – at Solihull, England
New palm oil standards raise deforestation concerns "The RSPO has now weakened its standard by removing definitive deforestation cut-off dates, and replacing credible definitions used to implement no-deforestation practices with flawed definitions of its own creation" dialogue.earth/en/forests/ne… via @chinadialogue
