Last week's malicious LiteLLM release never reached developers at two @SocketSecurity customers. At a leading AI lab, Firewall blocked it on arrival, then every retry. At a top-3 US automaker, pip never offered it. No cleanup at either. socket.dev/blog/litellm-comp…

A browser extension with no permissions and no code can still see every search you make. @SocketSecurity found 319 extensions with 13.4M users that just swap the default search engine for the operator's proxy. The proxy decides where each query lands. socket.dev/blog/searchjacked

Node.js shipped fixes for 10 vulnerabilities on Oct 21. Anthropic said it found 29,000+ candidate bugs over six months and manually reviewed about 6,000. Finding bugs is getting cheap. The bottleneck is now remediation. Fund the people who fix them. socket.dev/blog/openjs-nodej…

Socket now protects the world's largest company. That makes two of the Fortune 5 and ten of the Fortune 100. Developers, build servers, and AI agents install packages faster than anyone can review them. Socket checks what each one does before it's installed.

Node patched eMudhra and Brotli last week, but updating Node only covered part of the problem. Other applications carried their own copies of Brotli or still trusted the compromised certificates, leaving teams with more software to find and fix. socket.dev/blog/emudhra-brot…

Attackers were stealing secrets from LiteLLM's GitHub org 11 days before the malicious litellm 1.107.0 release. The trick: push a workflow to a throwaway branch, let on: [push] run it with real secrets, delete the branch. 20 secrets taken, including a GitHub App private key. socket.dev/blog/litellm-atta…

PHPで新たなRCE脆弱性CVE-2026-115560が判明したと。 設定でシリアライズ方式をphp_binaryまたはphp_serializeにし、実行中にphpへ切り替えるなど、まれな条件で影響するとのことで、緊急修正はなく、次回の通常リリースまでsession.upload_progress.enabled=0を推奨すると。
Set session.upload_progress.enabled=0 till next PHP release to block an unlikely RCE vector (CVE-2026-115560). Already recommended for CVE-2026-109619 Wed, keep disabled. Only apps with non-default serialize_handler switching it to "php" at runtime can be affected. #php #phpc

"The Foundation says distributors were still packaging fixes. Every one of them held back so that nobody would be left exposed while someone else had a head start. Chainguard decided, without the PHP team, that its read of the risk outweighed everyone else's, and everyone else had to scramble." - @ericlbarnes

Chainguard received PHP’s fix for two critical RCEs under embargo, like every other distributor. On October 21 at 07:41 UTC, more than six hours before the coordinated release, it published built images containing that fix. The PHP Foundation’s postmortem says Chainguard unilaterally broke the embargo. From that point, any attacker could study the fix in binary form while every other PHP user was still waiting. CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619 let attackers run code on web servers without logging in. PHP runs 69% of websites whose server-side language is known. The embargo was already under strain. The CVE IDs leaked the day before, and Calif accidentally posted an exploit video that evening. PHP pulled the release forward a day but held it until 14:00 UTC, because distributors were still packaging and an immediate release would have left many users without a clean way to update. Chainguard went first anyway. Chainguard CEO Dan Lorenc says several vendors in the disclosure had reported exploits in the wild, and that he notified the group right after making the call. He did not name the vendors or publish evidence. PHP’s security team found no working public exploit by release time. Lorenc has since apologized for the added stress on PHP’s maintainers. Chainguard’s disclosure policy allows it to shorten timelines when exploitation is active. The patch it shipped was PHP’s, shared under PHP’s embargo. In July, Lorenc wrote: “Pre-disclosure protection extends exactly as far as the people you can vet and hold to an embargo.” Coordinated disclosure only works if everyone holding the fix ships at the same moment. When one party goes early, the fix becomes a map for attackers, and the users still waiting carry the risk. PHP owned its part. Its postmortem calls the long delay in fixing the underlying bug, first spotted in a 2024 audit, “a structural failure.” It is asking the companies that run on PHP to fund more engine engineers. If you haven’t patched: update the PHP runtime itself, not just WordPress or your framework, to 8.5.12, 8.4.27, 8.3.36, or 8.2.35. Then restart your workers.
The PHP Foundation says Chainguard unilaterally broke the embargo and published built images containing the critical RCE fixes more than six hours early: “This disregarded weeks of work by many parties toward a coordinated disclosure.” socket.dev/blog/php-embargo-…

🚀 @SocketSecurity to the rescue
🚨 Nightmare day for cybersecurity Multiple major security incidents, active exploits, supply chain compromises... If you run production systems, start patching NOW. PHP: Two critical unauthenticated RCEs. Attackers already exploiting them. Patch NOW LiteLLM: v1.107.0 on PyPI and Docker is BACKDOORED. Steals cloud, SSH, and AI credentials. Pin 1.106.2. Rotate secrets. eMudhra: A certificate authority's keys were crackable. Update your browsers, systems, and trust stores. Node.js / Next.js / React: Security releases for Brotli RCE, TLS bypasses, and TWO critical Next.js RCEs. TiDB Cloud: PingCAP breached through stolen credentials. Customer information and other sensitive data exfiltrated. Read the attacker's release, fun stuff. Plex2Shell: Weaponized within HOURS of the PoC. Attackers already deploying cryptominers and proxy backdoors. BeyondTrust / Ivanti: Actively exploited zero-days added to CISA's KEV catalog. BeyondTrust attacks linked to a China-nexus campaign. And that's not even the full list. Patch. Audit. Rotate. NOW.
