It’s complicated, messy, imperfect, and open to criticism; there is both subtle and overt racism, and no shortage of flaws to scrutinize. Yet none of that changes a fundamental reality: within its internationally recognized borders, Israeli democracy remains vibrant and inclusive of citizens from diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds. The idea of a Jewish and democratic Israel is both legitimate and credible, and has been successfully practiced in tandem.

Man, it really sucks that AI took these jobs Now it’ll just be AI eating ice cream all day long Sad
This is how a typical day working at Microsoft looked like. These jobs aren’t coming back. AI will do them. Factory worker brain from 60 years ago cannot comprehend such working conditions.

I held my breath for this entire story, expecting the outcome to be what it is for so many trafficked children. And that is what WOULD have happened to Allie if Flock hadn't tracked the abductor. I admit I was once an anti-Flock alarmist—I didn't like the dystopian-looking poles that went up at major intersections in my area. I began "liking" IG videos about people destroying Flock cameras in the UK. Then I did something I should have done from the start: I took the time to *learn about them.* And then I realized how stupid I had been. I encourage you to do the same.
Allie was the picture of a typical 12-year-old girl—pink-and-white-striped shirt, blue jeans, and a PINK backpack, blond hair askew—the day she was taken. She later told police she thought she was meeting a 15-year-old boy, whom she’d first spoken to online and with whom she expected to be in a relationship. Instead, when Allie (whose name I’ve changed for this story, and whose image I've anonymized with @grok for this post) climbed into the black Chevy Malibu that afternoon, she found 31-year-old Brandon Britten. He drove them across three states, to his home in Independence County, Arkansas. Britten and his wife Sierra had conspired to abduct Allie, police allege, talking with her online for a month and even soliciting nude images. Upon returning home, Sierra told police, Brandon had “taken the child back into their bedroom while she slept in their young son’s bedroom.” Back in Woodruff, North Carolina, law enforcement began a fevered hunt for Allie. They thought she had gone to Arkansas or Texas, Spartansburg County sheriff Bill Rhyne told me, but were at “a dead standstill” until they found a surveillance-camera image of Allie entering the car. They fed a description of the vehicle—they had no license plate—into Flock Safety’s license plate reader database, which can track cars based on their appearance. “Without [Flock’s] technology, we would be at a complete standstill,” Rhyne told local media. After a few hours of combing the results, investigators found further images of Britten’s car, driving south through Alabama and into Arkansas. At 3 p.m., Spartansburg called the Independence County Sheriff’s Office; 90 minutes later, police had arrested the Brittens and recovered Allie. “I was able to locate the minor in a back bathroom with her face and hands against the wall shaking,” Lt. Zach Rawlins wrote in a sworn statement. “After telling her who I was, the minor thanked me for coming to get her, and said she wanted her momma.” America is gripped by a panic over Flock’s network of automated license plate readers (ALPRs), driven by stories of abusive cops and people wrongly jailed because of what critics call a creeping surveillance state. Largely absent from this discussion are stories like Allie’s, which is not unique: dozens of other children have been returned safely to their parents thanks in part to ALPR technology. Read about those children in my latest @CityJournal: city-journal.org/article/flo…

“Communism is great in theory, but doesn’t work in practice.” Still hear that a lot. But it’s like saying: “Well, the recipe is great but every time we bake a cake from it we end up poisoning everyone.” Yeah, that doesn’t sound like a great recipe actually. After many tens of millions dead, we should acknowledge that communism is bad in theory and bad in practice. It’s economic illiteracy combined with horrific ideas about establishing a dictatorship (oh, temporarily sure) and persecuting an ever expanding list of enemies, which will eventually include everyone who points out that it’s not working. The fact that it’s dressed up in sanctimonious, self-aggrandising rhetoric about freeing workers (who a lot of Marxists would shudder to have a conversation with) doesn’t make any of that better. It just provides an excuse to commit atrocities for the supposed great good - with that post-dictatorship utopia always at least one more murder away. If it can reach the point of justifying the Nazi-Soviet Pact and persecuting entire nationalities then there is no low to which it cannot sink. You know what is great in theory? Democratic institutions and norms, checks and balances, independent civil societies, freedom of speech and assembly, human rights, etc, etc. Those things are superior in theory, superior in practice, and there’s nothing remotely redeeming about those who would throw them away no matter where on the political spectrum they put themselves.

I got the munchies, time for a Wegmans run 🤤 Fun fact: this is the only active Wegmans (East Rochester, NY) in the entire chain that has kept its original 1950s design. Its a smaller, quick stop, "neighborhood market" store. 2 bigger Wegmans were built in the 90s in Fairport and Pittsford, so the company didn't see the need to tear down or change this location, and due to the outpour of local folks wanting to keep its original design as a core childhood memory of a time long passed. Every other Wegmans created from the 50s-70s changed their store front designs to the current model. -A lover of all things Wegmans 🤣

If the NCAA can't fix this, the government needs to step in. This a recipe for hearing damage, especially for the stadium workers.

A lesson from history is that autocrats cannot adapt. They often come to power addressing real problems, but since they don’t listen to the people, stagnation is inevitable. The playbook is stale and they see compromise as weakness. So they turn to outrages and repression.
Hume: The president has been out campaigning vigorously, but I'm not sure it's making any difference and what difference it would make I'm not sure is helping.  In Texas, he is calling James Talarico “Tala-freak-o.” He is not a freak. You see him. He seems mild mannered and pleasant and not an unattractive candidate.  This cuddling up to Vladimir Putin at this moment… I don’t think that plays well. The American public can’t stand Putin. And this fiasco with the press secretary…

Hey guys, I’m going to say this gently, uh, Elizabeth Holmes is a master manipulator. And the fact that y’all are coming out and saying: “well actually, Fielder and Seyfried are just as duplicitous,” is proving even more that the movie worked. Because the film is a showcase of how scammers work and how even when all the evidence is pointed against them, they can somehow still get by, to the point where even Fielder was compromised. And the fact that some of y’all are willfully ignoring that to invent this falsified reality just reinforces how effective the scam is
Replying to @SarahMeyohas
Agreed 💯 And the ones who are going to really benefit from this are Fielder and Seyfried who come off as more duplicitous themselves… and the last shot of the movie is Holmes with her kids who will not get anything good out of this. And the last blurb of the movie (it’s not a documentary) seems like Fielder having the last laugh on Evans

🎯 Russia is a failed nation, a terror state, a mafia pretending to be a country, a people infected with an imperial virus, a gas station with nukes that barely has any gas left, a Chinese vassal that needs perpetual war to stay intact. It should be quarantined, not elevated.
