when Dazai went to the "big city" in adulthood people would often comment on his northern Aomori accent. he seems to have been insecure about it, which i can sympathize with. i distinctly remember noticing his mention of it bc i also had a heavy accent when i first came to Canada
whaaat people talk about it (at least in academia) all the time! he mentions his "strong northern accent" in his writing quite often. i think its quite charming. here's an excerpt from the essay titled "Nation and Region in the work of Dazai Osamu" by Roy Starrs ๐
