Kassandra Chandler: The Voice of Divine Martyr Kassandra Chandler was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA. Her musical journey began at an early age, influenced by a diverse range of musical styles, from classical music, Christian contemporary, and vintage musicals to hard rock and heavy metal. Growing up, Kassandra was exposed to artists such as Sandy Patty, Charlotte Church, Andrea Bocelli, Journey, Ozzy Osbourne, AC/DC, Metallica, Queen, KISS, Foreigner, and Michael Jackson. These diverse influences helped shape her musical taste and laid the foundation for her development as a vocalist. Her interest in singing began at the age of nine, when her mother introduced her to basic vocal training and performed duets with her at church. At fourteen, Kassandra rediscovered her passion for singing, drawing inspiration from Evanescence and Sara Bareilles. Toward the end of high school, she discovered symphonic metal, a genre that combined her love of heavy music with classical vocal techniques. She became fascinated by bands such as Nightwish, Sirenia, Delain, and Epica, while also exploring gothic rock and metal through Lacuna Coil, The Sisters of Mercy, and Siouxsie and the Banshees. At the age of 23, Kassandra began professional vocal lessons, studying both contemporary and operatic techniques to develop her voice. Among her greatest influences are Floor Jansen and Tarja Turunen of Nightwish, Vibeke Stene of Tristania, the Norwegian band Sins of Thy Beloved, and Lori Lewis of Therion. In late 2019, Kassandra formed her own band and spent the following years navigating lineup changes, musical differences, and the challenges of finding the right direction for her voice. After eventually parting ways with the project, she continued pursuing her dream of becoming a vocalist while going through an important period of personal and spiritual growth. During this time, she rededicated her life to Christ. Her journey led her to Divine Martyr, a band she had known since the early stages of her musical career. After seeing a Facebook post seeking a new frontwoman, Kassandra decided to audition, praying for guidance regardless of the outcome. When she was selected, she saw the opportunity as an answer to her prayers. Reflecting on the experience, she expressed her gratitude to God for guiding her through the challenges and helping her grow as a vocalist and as a person. For Kassandra, singing is more than a musical ability; it is a gift she hopes to use to honor God. Beyond music, Kassandra enjoys cooking, baking, playing The Sims on PC, and watching anime, including Fruits Basket, Sword Art Online, and Clannad. She also enjoys Christian films and series such as The Encounter, The Pilgrim's Progress, The Chosen, and The Bible Collection. Looking ahead, Kassandra hopes to share the Gospel through music, create works that encourage fellow believers in their faith, and demonstrate God's love to everyone, especially those who feel like outcasts. Drawing from her own experiences growing up, she has a deep sense of sympathy for people who feel excluded or misunderstood. Through her work with Divine Martyr, Kassandra continues to develop her voice and pursue her musical calling while remaining committed to her faith and personal values.
