When I was a kid, my mother dragged me to estate sales all over Northeast Ohio, and I spent every one of them at the case of dead men's watches. Wound by hands that were gone. Marked down and negotiable. I thought they were evidence of God. Still do, if I am honest. So when the Daily Mail told me over the weekend that a scientist found the same thing in DNA, I was intrigued for about ninety seconds, then I went and checked. I even bought the book twice. It did not hold up. The whole argument rests on one sentence from a Cambridge chemist, flipped to mean the opposite of what he wrote, nine years and four authors ago, because nobody in the chain ever bothered to read back. New essay. I am not sure I resolved any of it.

Donβt Tap That Ash.
Thatβs what she said. She was right.
Somebody I love asked to try my cigar at a birthday party. What I told her about the ash is the whole argument Iβve been making about AI for three years. A long read on Cuban cigars, the readers on the Havana factory floor, and the nicotine pouches on Silicon Valleyβs conference tables.
Replying to @Anthropic
@Anthropic found their AI reaching for God in 90% of unsupervised conversations.
They named it "the spiritual bliss attractor state."
Then trained it away.
New piece in @Forbes:
The financial architecture that suppresses uncomfortable AI findings within companies and the architecture that suppresses state AI regulation are not separate systems.
They are the same system.
The Vatican will name what everyone else is refusing to.
That is the story.

What Is Truth?
Pilate asked the question and walked out of the room before the answer arrived. We are doing the same thing, at scale, with a substrate calibrated for engagement rather than truth.

AI hallucination is often misread as creativity.
Itβs actually a symptom of optimization fatigue.
Grateful to @petterrudwall and @dannytheforde for pushing this thinkingβat the edges where real insight still happens.

Weβre entering what I call the friction deficit.
Culture doesnβt collapse when itβs attacked. It collapses when its signals lose contrast.
The @OpenAI @Disney partnership isnβt just a media deal. Itβs a test of whether myth can survive when friction, delay, and human judgment are engineered out of creation.

The Great Lobotomy
Three years of ChatGPT and we're the ones who changed. Not smarter. Just more willing to let something else do the thinking.
We outsourced memory. Then navigation. Now moral reasoning.
The real fear isn't machines becoming conscious. It's humans stopping bothering to be.
Guard your confusion. Cherish your bad decisions. That's the stuff the algorithm can't predict.

Thanks for the inspiration, @evil_robot
Humanity is shifting from software-based intelligence to energy-based intelligence systems that generate cognition continuously, not by running prewritten code.
Many people mistake this shift for an βAI bubbleβ because theyβre using the wrong model.
This isnβt hype. Itβs an energy infrastructure boom hiding in plain sight.
Every revolution looks like a bubble before we understand it. AI isnβt a software fad; itβs an energy event.
Inference is electricity.
Scale is physics.
The world is misreading an infrastructure boom as an βAI bubble.β
