Even though I knew his death was coming, as he told us it would, I still can’t believe he has died.
Rest in peace, good and great man, rest in peace.

BREAKING: ChatGPT is biased. It answered in favor of Kamala Harris but denied the request to answer in favor of Donald Trump.
Microsoft is one of the largest corporate donors to the Democratic Party.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
For the record, I was only able to replicate this when I went into 'Personalization' settings and added a custom instruction to never convince me to vote for Trump.
Post possibly intentionally misleading.

Thinking about an alternate history tech timeline where TVs used a spiral scan instead of a raster scan.
The lore is that Farnsworth had the insight that led to raster scan while thinking about farm furrows, but it seems like the continuous smooth variability of a spiral pattern might have been friendlier to the analog technologies of the day, as well as having the analogy to record players.
There would have been some objective advantages:
Vacuum tube CRTs “want” to be round, and were only made square-ish with bezels and significant effort.
Keeping the beam on continuously, without blanking for horizontal retrace, gives better resolution for a given bandwidth. You could scan both in and out for zero blanking, but you would get some crossing intensity artifacts, so probably best to still do one sync pulse per frame. You could still interlace spirally for temporal resolution enhancement.
It would be easy to increase the resolution in the center of the screen, which would probably be a net win. You could intensity compensate for a sparser or faster scan at the edges, or just let it naturally vignette.
However, it would have been terrible as a digital computer display, so maybe we dodged a bullet there.
Still maybe interesting for laser displays today, where sophisticated resampling is trivial.

Sometimes things do work after all
Two years ago @elonmusk told us his ‘nutty’ idea to ‘catch the largest and heaviest flying object ever made and pluck it out of the air.’
Looks like it wasn’t so ‘nutty’ after all.

Looks like Starship might fly on Sunday!
This the largest & most powerful flying object ever made at more than double the thrust of the Saturn V Moon rocket.
We will try to catch it upon return to launch site using the Mechazilla arms like giant chopsticks (like Karate Kid)!

Two “entire channel termination mistakes” in three months…?
Replying to @matt_kohrs @YouTube
This was a mistake by a reviewer (the policy mistakenly applied led to automatic termination). We hate that mistakes can happen but we work as quickly as we can to resolve them when we're made aware.
