US officials say they see the highest threat level from Iran since the start of Trump and Netanyahu's war. They say intel shows Iran is in the "advanced stages" of planning to attack US officials, including ambassadors — not only in the Middle East, but in Europe and the US too.

NEW from @nytimes: Trump says Venezuela isn't ready for elections and focuses on its oil, but Rubio has pushed talks between combatant politicians. We went to Caracas to get a look — and to gauge whether the US is actually prodding the authoritarian rulers toward democracy.

SCOOP: Julio Herrera Velutini, a Venezuelan billionaire, really wanted a pardon. He got it not long after his daughter hired Alina Habba, a lawyer close to Trump, in a deal worth more than $50 million. Habba was also working at DOJ at the time.

This is another step in Putin's efforts to float a meeting involving him, Trump and Xi on the sidelines of APEC in Shenzhen next month. Putin aide Ushakov made a public proposal for the three-way in Sept. And Kim Jong-un could be a surprise guest star: nytimes.com/2026/09/18/us/po…
Putin has proposed that he, Trump and Xi meet next month to talk about Ukraine in an attempt to negotiate an end to the conflict that would favor Moscow, said people familiar with the discussions. wsj.com/world/russia/putin-f…

JD Vance takes a question from a man whose wife was an American who died in an Iranian air strike in March. He says "there's a failure in the leadership" and asks Vance "how is this administration gonna start holding those leaders accountable for the deaths of the soldiers that we honor and love?"

To claim that nobody in Israel cared or talked about the allegations that Netanyahu was warned in the weeks before October 7 or that this is not an issue in the elections is false. Period

To be clear: Some facts are neither in dispute nor unclear. Our photographer was clearly marked as Press. She was clearly beaten. These are not partisan or risible statements, but indisputable. We urge a thorough investigation and accountability.
The Prime Minister’s Office:
The facts surrounding the confrontation near Abu Falah, during which Washington Post photojournalist Heidi Levine was allegedly assaulted, remain unclear and are under investigation.
Israel unequivocally condemns violence against anyone—Jews, Arabs, Christians or journalists. Those responsible will be held accountable.
But serious questions remain. Reports indicate some 200 Arabs and far-left activists confronted approximately 40 Israeli youths. Footage shows masked individuals on both sides hurling objects, amid reports of fireworks fired at Jewish youths. Other footage appears to show Levine knocked down and immediately helped to her feet by the same unidentified individual.
The investigation must establish the facts, including who initiated the violence.
We will not allow disputed incidents to be exploited to demonize the hundreds of thousands of law-abiding Jewish residents of Judea and Samaria.
The facts must determine the conclusions. Not the headlines.
This certainly punctures the stereotype of Rand employees.
Francis Fukuyama on finding an apartment in Santa Monica in the early 1980s: "On arriving, I saw an offer on the bulletin board at Rand for a room in a shared apartment posted by one of the secretaries. She was a rather attractive brunette somewhere in her mid-forties with a deep tan and freckles, who had a rent-controlled house close by in downtown Santa MonicaI. I showed up with my suitcase and found the front door open with no one apparently at home. I walked inside and wandered around; there were stairs leading up to a roof patio, where I found, amidst a jungle of marijuana plants, the secretary lying out on a chaise longue, completely naked. She told me to take the bedroom
between her daughter’s and that of her own seventeen-year-old boyfriend. He was the same age as her daughter, and had his own room in case they weren’t getting along that day. When I met him in the evening, he turned out to be a bare-chested, suntanned surfer of California legend." google.com/books/edition/In_…

Katie Zacharia was in her office with the @WSJ when Jason Miller knocked on the door.
“JD wanted to chat with us real quick."
Outside Trump was telling reporters he asked her to reconsider the role.
She never returned to the interview, or the job.
