Sean's Team here. To end 2024 and Sean’s time as a Cabinet Minister on a high note, we found out today that he was voted: Most Valuable Politician, Best Cabinet Minister, and Up & Comer in an annual survey by The Hill Times. Sean - working alongside you has been a tremendous honour. Thank you for your service to Canada, for being a gracious mentor and role model, and for all of the laughs along the way. To take your advice, we will continue to focus on the problems we want to solve and the people we want to help, and not the titles we want to hold. Here’s to hoping we get to work together again someday.

One has to be pretty unworldly to believe that a Sunni Muslim country would send a trans to the Olympics. The same unworldy #idiots comment on genocide, geopolitics, and world affairs.

Pierre, thanks for watching my video. I hope it gives you a break from using incel hashtags to find friends online, begging for the attention of the far-right, and posting weird wood videos. Remember to like and subscribe!
Sean, you have made housing a pipe dream by doubling the costs. You ran immigration “out of control,” to quote your cabinet colleagues before you became housing minister and spent billions building bureaucracy. Now you put out a vanity video of your best photo ops to put lipstick on the pig.

It makes me furious that @fordnation can publish an interactive map to find beer after just one weekend but he won’t do the same thing to help any of the 2.3 million Ontarians who can’t find a family doctor. #onpoli #onhealth
Make this summer an Ontario-made summer! Our new interactive map shows thousands of convenient options where you can still buy beer, wine, spirits and other drinks across the province. Check out a local brewery or winery for some fantastic Ontario-made products near you and check back for more options at convenience stores, grocery store and big-box stores starting later this summer! ontario.ca/page/where-buy-al…

Nassim Nicholas Taleb once said: “The three most harmful addictions are heroin, carbohydrates, and a monthly salary.” Here’s why and how I quit my investment banking job at 25:

Inclusion rate or tax rate? Taxes on wages vs capital gains? Lots of confusion out there. It's simple: $1 in wages. Top marginal tax rate = 53%. Keep $0.47. $1 in corporate profit --> 26% corporate tax rate = $0.74 distributed as capital gains --> 50% inclusion rate = $0.37 taxed at 53% personal. All in, roughly 46% tax rate overall. Keep $0.54. Better than wages (and better than interest or dividends). At 67% inclusion: roughly 52% tax overall for capital gains. So keep $0.48. Close to treatment of wages! (And also close to dividends and interest!) Want lower taxes? Great. Lower tax rates. Inclusion rates can be used to better equalize treatment of capital gains vs other income sources, as the budget does.

I've read this book twice already, and it really changed how I think. I believe it's the best thing Prof. @nntaleb has ever written. Now, I'm going through it again because I want to write a detailed review from a mathematics perspective. What's your thoughts on this book?

Measles is not COVID. The framework of understanding COVID does not fit very well to measles. Risk factors are not the same. Pathogenesis is not the same. Immunity is not the same. The vaccine (which is amazing for measles) is not the same.

Double Fooled by Randomness du Jour. 1) Diversification is not aimed at raising returns but lowering variance ACROSS possible histories. What if MSFT went to 0? 2) Cherry Picking: Consider the 000s of entrepreneurs who DID NOT diversify. #Hindsight #Imbecile
After Bill Gates became friends with Warren Buffett, he began to diversify his portfolio and sold Microsoft shares. Bill Gates' fortune today is 138 billion dollars, if he hadn't diversified it would be 1.33 trillion dollars. Be careful with diversification and with friends who recommend it.

Being drawn to conspiracy theories is more than a failure of critical thinking. It's a sign of feeling threatened and cynical. 170 studies, 150k+ people: the strongest correlates of conspiracy beliefs involve doubting others' intentions. What looks like low IQ may be low trust.

I love that the NHL has been cornered into either punishing people for supporting positive causes or looking like cowards who bark but don’t bite. This situation is theirs and theirs alone. I hope they stew in the rushed embarrassment of having zero nuance in their decisions.

Instagram just told me I should make more posts like the one about my friend who died. This is all shit. We’ll look back at this stuff as incredulously as we look at people smoking on planes.

Tour with @gaslightanthem starts tomorrow in Grand Rapids. I'm en route now. Honestly, it's surprisingly hard to get there.
