Why are all the people who were warning of fascism suddenly bragging about the coming show trials, reeducation camps, and nationalization?

The most amazing, heart-breaking, dramatic start to any documentary series ever. TV at its finest.
31 October 1973. 1st episode of the 26-part classic ITV documentary series World at War was broadcast. It was narrated by Laurence Olivier with music by Carl Davies. It cost £900,000 (worth £11 million today).

Apparently, being cited by someone on the ‘hard right’ is now enough to make you guilty by association. That is the Guardian’s case against me. It has published an article about my opposition to the Church of England’s £100 million slavery reparations scheme, smearing me through supposed links with Restore Britain and associating our campaign with wealthy financiers. Yet its evidence of my ‘hard right’ connections amounts to a Restore Britain paper citing my work. As for Paul Marshall, he has never funded our campaign. What about my arguments against reparations? What opposing reasons and evidence did the Guardian offer? None whatsoever. Read my response to the Guardian at The Biggar Picture: nigelbiggar.co.uk/p/my-answe…

I am speechless. Thomas Aquinas College just dropped a study on the rigor of the new SAT. It compares the 1980/87 test with 2026. The findings should terrify every parent and teacher... Vocabulary has collapsed. Old SAT: 70.6% of questions tested vocab. New SAT: 15%. The old test forced students to know a wide range of words through analogies, antonyms, and sentence completions. The new test abandoned that. Most vocab questions now just ask students to fill in one blank from context. Reading passages also got radically shorter (average ~97 words vs 300–340). The new test uses short expository passages and hands you the necessary background knowledge inside the text. The older tests leaned much more heavily on argumentative and persuasive writing, assumed far more historical, scientific, and cultural knowledge, and penalized students who lacked it. This is a redefinition of what "college readiness" means. If you believe that kids should develop rigorous vocabulary, be capable of sustained reading, and possess background knowledge, I have bad news for you. The SAT no longer measures these. If you want a future where children can actually read difficult texts and construct complex arguments, the SAT must be replaced now. This cannot go on.
We were concerned that the SAT has become a less reliable measure of student preparedness for a rigorous college curriculum. So, we commissioned a study from Johns Hopkins University. What does this study tell us about the state of higher education? The results are shocking. thaq.co/4iLThZ0

Yesterday I was talking with an economist. A genuinely sharp guy. We ended up agreeing on a conclusion that isn't comfortable: Europe and the West are down to two scenarios. Scenario one: communism gets defeated within the next 5 years. We finally do what has to be done on immigration and on the economy. It will be hard, really hard. But better a horrible ending than horror without end. Scenario two: communism wins. And right behind it, most likely, Islamic tyranny. Not in 50 years. Soon after. There is no in-between. No "it'll sort itself out," no lukewarm third way where everyone keeps their little comfort zone. What fascinates me is that the vast majority of people don't see this at all. They're living through this period as if it were just another political cycle. But there's good news. The people who've been sounding the alarm for 20 years were right. They were called crazy, doomers, prophets of decline. And every month, reality proves them a little more right. The faster people realize this, the further ahead we get. Waking up is already half the battle.

This post makes absolute sense if you change "But" to "So yeah." Ever since the DoEd was founded, reading and computing skills have gone down for every age cohort. Not just down but way down. So yeah, to improve education in this country, abolish the Department of Education.
Middle schoolers can't read. High schoolers can't write an essay. College students can't spot propaganda. Adults can't spot AI images. But yeah, let's abolish the Department of Education.

BREAKING: NYT reports that operatives with Democratic Alaska U.S. Senate candidate Mary Peltola’s campaign were behind the effort to find & recruit a candidate named Dan Sullivan to run against incumbent GOP Senator Dan S. Sullivan in an effort to confuse voters and peel votes from him. Specifically, NYT says they have reviewed text messages and documents that reveal in summer 2025, a Peltola staffer received instructions from campaign staffers to find as many people named Dan Sullivan in Alaska as possible. The staffer complied, going through voter records, and compiled a list. The operation “involved secret trips to far-flung Alaskan communities and the appearance of a mysterious Midwestern operative, who traversed the state using a fake name and made his pitch to would-be candidates over beers at brew pubs.” Per NYT: “The plan worked. This spring, a retired teacher from a tiny fishing village along the Alaska Panhandle, reachable only by air and sea, announced his candidacy for Senate. His name was Dan J. Sullivan.” nytimes.com/2026/10/28/us/po…

Tomorrow we're releasing a full UATX course for free: all 19 lectures of Professor Isabella Reinhardt's Rise and Fall of Ancient Rome, filmed in class with our students. It runs from Rome's mythical founding to the Third Century Crisis. It ends on a question the class spent a whole session arguing about: did Rome ever really fall?

This one clip explains more than a year of headlines. It starts with Iran, jumps to the Gulf states quietly walking away from Israel, then lands in California with a claim about fraud that made the whole room go silent. Jillian Michaels did not see it coming. Everyone’s fighting over their own backyard while the real game is being played somewhere else, and one answer connects all of it. Wait for the moment she says “fix my road,” because the last line changes everything. Most people won’t make it to the end. CLICK LINK BELOW FOR FULL EPISODE!!! youtube.com/watch?v=MD410oKd…
