So... human language processing is closer to current platform LLMs than traditional linguistic theory?
also, bad news for S. Pinker.., consider especially The Language Instinct and his words-and-rules theory, defends a Chomsky-style view
Another win for @nntaleb bs detector
Chomsky was wrong.
Researchers found your brain doesn’t store language the way every textbook since 1957 claims.
For decades, the undisputed rule of linguistics, led by Noam Chomsky, was that human language is hierarchical.
We were told our brains process language using complex "grammar trees." That we secretly build deep, abstract, mathematical rules in our heads before we speak.
This new paper proves that is completely wrong.
Researchers at Cornell University analyzed how people actually process and produce language in real time.
They found sequences. Linear chunks.
When we speak, we aren't calculating deep syntactic rules. We are just predicting the next most logical sequence of words based on the context of the words right before it.
We string linear chunks together.
If this sounds familiar, it should.
This is exactly how Large Language Models like ChatGPT work.
For years, critics have dismissed AI as "just a next-token predictor." They said it isn't truly intelligent because it doesn't understand deep grammatical hierarchies like humans do.
But this paper suggests humans don't use those hierarchies either.
We are just predicting the next chunk.
Language isn't a rigid tree of mathematical rules. It's a linear stream of contextual predictions.
We thought we were building AI to mimic the complexity of the human brain.
It turns out, the human brain was just running a simpler algorithm all along.

Nunca he tenido relación ni me he reunido con personas dedicadas a actividades delictivas.

This is the absolute best advice for a profession. Modern economy has habituated everyone into sacrificing their dignity, tailoring themselves from one employer to the next. Alloy.
So you end up with no real identity or skill.

Real humans seek truth, clarity, depth & simplicity. And so they welcome anything that destroys the false, the superficial & the purely mechanistic, e.g. (especially) AI.

Expertise increases risk taking only linearly, but the effects of collision are nonlinear: 40km/h is > 10 times the risks of 10km/h. This explains the mortality of experts outside ludic setups (racing tracks for cars, dedicated roads for cycling competitions, etc.)

The problem isn’t that AI is intelligent. It isn’t. The problem is that too many adults (but not all) are at once mechanistic, imitative, unimaginative, stupid, formulaic, influenceable, & gullible, arrogant beyond their skill set, & too expensive to maintain.
If your activity is far away of the final product/service and the client is a large pyramid you are more in danger. The opposite is more robust

I defer to N's kill hope heuristic. You must expect to work your whole life. Don't fuss. See the good side to every scenario (barring ruinous, which you panic beforehand).

My theory has been anything repeatable, boring, common, abstract is fragile.
What is niche, closer to humans, authentic is more robust. Let's see how time tells.

Wake up.
Every profession deemed white-collar, the middle class dream, is about to be decimated by AI, at a much faster pace than anticipated, with monstrous social consequences.

I have never been a "rug merchant". Outside finance, the only physical merchandise I have ever sold was condoms in industrial quantities shipped to the bordello where his mother used to work --which, I admit, may not have been perfect.

“In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little, yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment. We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read. But the bitter truth we critics must face is that, in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than our criticism designating it so.” — Anton Ego in Ratatouille

If we are honest, people also spew out words without “understanding.”
Example: do you truly understand why the sky is blue, or is it something you’ve been parroting all your life based on “training data”?
Of course, there are things we do understand. Einstein did understand relativity, etc.
BUT:
1) They are a fraction of the things we talk about as if we understood them, even though we don’t
2) Their understanding was acquired by engaging deep thinking, not just breezing through life
Point #2 is key! When we say “LLMs don’t understand”, we often refer to them without their “thinking mode” on. If we applied the same standard to humans, we would also conclude they don’t understand.
We can’t apply the double standard of comparing humans with thinking mode on and LLMs without it. They both have a thinking mode, and we should compare them equally, either both with it on, or both with it out.
Note: “thinking mode” is an actual thing: it refers to additional loops of taking the info that we would intuitively spit out and critically combining or comparing it.

Come to Mexico City dear Indians friends. We have better vegetarian Lindy options here
Another way the current administration is trapped in the ZERO-SUM FALLACY: The H-1B visa situation.
+ You are NOT taking a job from a citizen, rather creating jobs by increasing overal economic output. Plus these people (even vegetarians) SPEND locally.
+ The US has long been benefiting from other countries' brain drain; without it its edge wd collapse. Tesla, Von Braun, von Neumann, Fermi & Einstein did NOT each take the job of a citizen.
+ It the problem is anti-Indian racism, say it, don't play games.
