NestJS, Spring Boot, Laravel, or Go? Which would you choose for a high-performance backend?

before assignment operators were standardized, C code used backwards-looking operators like =+ instead of +=
the famous “you are not expected to understand this” code looked even stranger back then

Linux’s Rust debate just got bigger as systemd officially adds Rust support.
The software that boots your system and manages its services now allows developers to write new standalone components in Rust.
Support has merged into main for systemd 263. Existing C code won’t be rewritten, and core libraries will stay in C.
There are strict rules too. No Cargo, no Rust standard library. Everything builds through Meson.
The first planned component is systemd-keyring-setup, which loads certificates into Linux kernel keyrings.
Rust is becoming part of more of the software Linux runs on.

what if you could pass a TypeScript type to JSON.parse and it validates the input at runtime?

Got Rust hot reload, even with GPUI. Without writing any additional code into app itself.
But currently initial build is slow, it took 195.62s to build this app from scratch to have hot-reload, with Zed it takes 800s+
Have to fix that. Btw it works kinda like Vite, by exposing it's own SDK to write integrations, that allows GPUI to survive state between hot-reloads
It's name is Rite (like Vite but instead of V is R)

Surprisingly good video on a 1 cpu server challenge. Mad respect to the crazy person writing io_uring in assembly!

Code optimization is absolutely fascinating.
When you multiply something by a constant (let's say 24), LLVM replaces multiplication (imul) with a combination of left shift (shl) and load effective address (lea)
Left shift by 3 is the same as multiplying by 8, load effective address does math of [base + index] in the brackets, and then stores its result.
All of this literally to save 1 cycle. Because imul takes 3 cycles, and shl and lea take 1 each.
And you can find tables with similar heuristics for a lot of different constants. These people who write optimizing compiler backends spend so much effort to save just one instruction, so don't throw it all away!
