Children are not simply smaller adults. They're more likely than adults to die from blast injuries, and the harm is often lifelong. At #UNGA81, @CivCenter spoke on INEW's behalf: the best way to protect children from explosive weapons is to avoid their use in populated areas.

Last night, Russia struck Kyiv again. Children and families were killed or wounded in their sleep. Casualties keep rising. EU offices also sustained damage. Wars have rules. Civilians are #NotATarget.

We’re horrified to hear reports that three children have been killed in Kyiv after an airstrike hit a residential building overnight. A home should be a safe haven, not a target. No child should ever have to experience this.

🟥 A humanitarian worker in Gaza shared the following report with Drop Site News, along with the attached hospital referral document: “For those who do not understand what it means for a home to be bombed by an F-35 or F-16: we’re talking about a bomb weighing more than 1,000 pounds of high explosives. One such bomb struck the Al-Arabeed family home in the Nuseirat area yesterday, killing nine members. Two children remain missing beneath the rubble. As the wounded were brought in—many from neighboring homes—one severely injured little girl arrived alone. The hospital registered her as a ‘child of unknown identity.’ Her condition was critical. She was unknown in every sense. Her face shattered, jaw broken, one eye protruding from its socket, all her limbs fractured, and her fragile little body almost completely crushed by such a massive bomb. And she arrives without any family, no relatives, no one at all—utterly alone and without a name. This scene has repeated itself hundreds of times in this war. Sometimes, a surviving relative may later arrive to identify the child. But these agonizing moments remain etched in the painful annals of this genocide we are enduring.”
