Is "AI" just a passing trend?🤔📈
Have you ever wondered why "AI AI AI ..." is everywhere, but not "ML ML ML ...", for example?
Yes, I know the difference between these 2 scientific categories, but let's be honest: in most contexts where we use "AI", it wouldn't be a mistake to use "ML" instead. But we keep saying "AI"!📌
2 years ago, for my Master's Thesis, I built an AI model aiming to distinguish between good banks and banks that potentially would fail. Do you know how many times I used "Artificial Intelligence" in this work? Zero. However, "Machine Learning" was used 154 times. Yeah, the model I built was an "ML model". It was 2021.
Oh, if only I were writing this work now, in 2023! Some small, insignificant contextual adjustments to the Theory Part, and Boom! "AI" would sound 154 times, while "ML" ... maybe a couple of times where it would be really necessary.
And a couple of years ago, I said to myself, "Machine Learning Algorithms are the fucking future!"
Today, I'm rephrasing it a bit, saying, "Artificial Intelligence is the fucking future!"
This categorization scheme with AI as the broadest circle has been existing long before I stated this about ML/AI to myself the 1st time😋
The Apple presentation actually demonstrated that, to be honest, there is no vital necessity to use "AI".
So why are we using it?
Because businesses are more pitchable with "AI"! Yes, but why? Because "AI" is more romantic; it reminds us of all those sci-fi movies with robots, time machines, and evil villains! Yes, but those movies started appearing since the '80s! Why did we wake up with "AI" just now?
Why are we so obsessed with "AI"?
Who was the first person triggering this whole "AI" trend? Whose idea has triggered it? Whose money has triggered it?
I would be so excited to read more research on that topic :)🔍
Well, my message is that AI is definitely the future. Together with ML, together with DL!
But "AI" might be only a temporary local trend. It might be... it might not be ... !⚖️
Know who you are and what you're doing, and be prepared for any cycle in your life!🔥
