On October 28, 1940, as World War II spread across Europe, Mussolini gave Greece an ultimatum: allow Italian troops to occupy strategic parts of the country or face war.
Greece said NO. ✋🏼🇬🇷
Italy invaded, expecting an easy victory. Instead the Greeks fought back and pushed Italian forces into Albania, delivering one of the first major Allied victories of WWII.
That historic refusal became known as OHI (ΟΧΙ), the Greek word for “NO.”
Every October 28, Greeks around the world celebrate OHI Day, honoring the courage of a small nation that stood up to a much larger power and showed the world that freedom is worth fighting for. 💙🇬🇷
