We tested 10 behavioral interventions to mitigate #climatechange in 63 countries (N = 59,440)
The interventions’ effectiveness was small, largely limited to nonclimate skeptics, and differed across outcomes:
-Beliefs were strengthened mostly by decreasing psychological distance (by 2.3%)
-Policy support by writing a letter to a future-generation member (2.6%)
-Information sharing by negative emotion induction (12.1%)
-No intervention increased the more effortful behavior—several interventions even backfired by reducing tree planting!

The IRA has the potential to significantly reduce US emissions, as @JesseJenkins, @JEBistline and others have shown. In a new @NatureClimate paper, we discuss the supply, demand, and polarization challenges that could get in the way. 1/

I am still reading #NCA5 carefully and will be writing about my thoughts, including the decision to lead the report with "billion dollar" disaster political messaging — but I just wanted to give a strong thanks to @ezramarkowitz @candiscallison @rlshwom + collaborators for their great work on the public communication, engagement, social systems, and justice sections of the report nca2023.globalchange.gov/cha…— including maybe the best graphic in the report [or at least for me to use in teaching ;-)]

ALT In comparing climate letters to legacy letters, many terms that differ most between the two sets of letters are topical (“climate” and “change” being most prominent of these as more common in climate letters, but also “country”, “society”, “hate”, “technology”, “racism”, “war”, “women”, “America”, and “healthcare” on the non-climate legacy side).
