"Senhora Do Mar" was originally meant to be submitted for Slovenia's EMA, until Carlos Coelho learned about the original draft, sensed that it gave Portuguese vibes and wrote the lyrics for it.

Homens da Luta participanted in 2010 in the online voting phase of #FestivaldaCanção and were also winning. On the first day of voting, fans of the festival discovered that the song by Homens da Luta had already been performed in public eight months earlier.

In 2011, comedy troupe Homens da Luta won Festival da Canção with "Luta É Alegria" - bringing their anti-austerity (by the IMF and the EU) anthem straight to Düsseldorf for Eurovision!

This was a violation of Eurovision rules, which state that no song may be presented to the public before October 1st of the year preceding the contest. Consequently, the group and their song were disqualified on the next day.

So it's clear as day that none of the big names wanted to participate (although the rules say that the winner is entitled to go to Eurovision), just because the society would use the argument of 'If you don't want to go, why are you participating?'.
