THE LAKERS "IF" REPORT 🏆 | 2026–27
14 IFs. One question: what has to go right for the Lakers to hang with the NBA’s elite and contend?
Luka’s team now. A rebuilt roster. Plenty of guys with something to prove.
I ranked the biggest swing factors and impact—not just the best players. Let’s debate. 🧵👇

"LeBron’s departure was offset by the Kessler and Grimes acquisitions. There’s a case to be made this Lakers roster is better than last year’s. This team is much better suited to cover for Luka's weaknesses while accentuating his strengths," per @liam_mckeone.

The first teenager to ever beat Novak in a Grand Slam.
And he did it on his mom’s birthday.

Every IF That Stands Between the Lakers and True Contention - [A Thread]
Every season comes down to “ifs.” For the Lakers, it’s about Luka, LeBron… and most importantly everyone in between.
Here’s what has to go right for each player ranked by impact on accomplishing the IF (not a talent ranking) for LA to contend in 2025-26. 🧵👇#LakeShow

📊 Luka Doncic at #EuroBasket 2025:
◉ Among the top players in both *steals per game* & *overall defense rating*
◉ Clearly standing out from the rest of the field in the plot
◉ Breaking the “weak defender” narrative with elite impact
Luka Doncic, who is always heavily criticized for his lack of defense, is nominated for the BEST DEFENDER award in #EuroBasket 2025 😯🔒

So incredibly disrespectful from Christopher Waltz. The loser is the one who can’t see the work done by countless of his fellow crew workers behind the scenes to create the illusion on screen. It’s sad to see. #VFX #CGI
