The more you understand the history of Stonks, the more ridiculous this setup starts to look. Stonks Guy first appeared in 2017. Meme Man. Suit. Stock chart going up. One word: STONKS. That image escaped Facebook, spread through Reddit, and eventually became one of the internet’s universal ways of talking about markets. Then retail investing became internet culture. WallStreetBets exploded. GameStop happened. Millions of people watched a subreddit turn financial markets into entertainment, memes into financial language, and retail traders into a genuine cultural force. And sitting right in the middle of that vocabulary was Stonks. By 2021, "stonks" had become so synonymous with the movement that mainstream coverage was literally explaining the word to people trying to understand what was happening on Wall Street. And where were millions of those retail traders? Robinhood. Now look at where Robinhood is going. They built Robinhood Chain. @RobinhoodCrypto Their flagship RWA product is tokenized stocks. Stocks and ETFs are becoming ERC-20s, moving onchain, usable as collateral and composable across DeFi. Robinhood says eligible users can already access Stock Tokens across 120+ countries, with 24/7 trading directly on Robinhood Chain. Think about how insane that full circle is. The company that became synonymous with the internet retail trading generation is now building a blockchain around putting traditional financial assets onchain. The same internet generation that turned "stocks" into "stonks" is moving onchain with them. And sitting at the intersection of all of it is arguably the most recognizable financial meme the internet has ever created. $STONKS. A meme born from stock market culture. Popularized by the same internet communities that changed retail investing forever. Now living on Robinhood Chain while Robinhood pushes tokenized stocks and ETFs into the next era of markets. And $STONKS holders earn $SPY. The meme literally earns the market it spent almost a decade making fun of. You could have invented a thousand narratives for a memecoin and struggled to make one fit this cleanly. This one already happened, the internet wrote the lore years ago. Now the infrastructure finally caught up. Stonks.
