Went to Apple HQ and had to test this theory myself… apparently there’s a science behind the packaging… blew my mind 🍎

At the start of a holiday, I don't want to pause, reflect, consider, assess or evaluate. I want to get mentally as far from school as possible, so my tiny mind has time to sift and sort subconsciously. I want some space and quiet, away from the constant mental barrage of school.

Children who take music lessons develop a larger corpus callosum, the bridge between the two halves of the brain, and the change is permanent. A 2005 review in the Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences found that early music training produces structural brain changes that persist into adulthood, even if the person stops playing. The review was led by Gottfried Schlaug at Harvard Medical School, one of the leading researchers on music and the brain. He found that children who started instrumental training before age seven had a significantly larger anterior corpus callosum than non-musicians, and the size difference was still visible in adults who had not touched an instrument in years. The corpus callosum carries signals between the left and right hemispheres. A larger one means faster, richer communication between the two sides, and the effect shows up in tasks that have nothing to do with music: spatial reasoning, verbal memory, and the ability to process multiple streams of information at once. The music built the highway, and the brain uses it for everything. Schlaug also found that musicians had larger cerebellums, the region involved in timing and motor coordination, and more grey matter in the areas that process sound. The brain had physically reorganised itself around the demands of the instrument, and the reorganisation was visible on a scan. The age window matters. Children who started before seven showed the largest changes. Children who started after ten showed smaller ones. Adults who took up an instrument for the first time showed the least structural change, though they still showed some. The brain is most willing to be rebuilt by music during the years when most parents are debating whether to sign their child up for lessons. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/1659…

My new book released today is all about behaving and belonging, which are the cornerstones of any great school. This book is not about rules, though they’re important. It looks carefully & practically into both of these key domains. amzn.eu/d/08wGOlNV

Please get rid of those what is geography units. Primary teachers are doing so much more than you're giving them credit for if you do that. Pupils know more than you're giving them credit for. The same goes for pretty much everything else too.
What if Y7 started with a bang? What if Y7 geography starts with rich geographical knowledge as opposed to a fluffy unit that lacks foundational substantive knowledge? Put another way: what if we never saw another 'Skills of a Geographer' unit again?! katestockings.com/geographyc…

there are 3 kinds of people you will meet: the mirror, the window & the door. all 3 are meant to help you in your learning process. mirrors reflect back to you what needs work, they reflect your dysfunctional patterns, your leaky boundaries & where you abandon yourself.

Every year on or right before 9/11, we show this video to our students. It’s not only powerful story-telling, it’s a reminder to a younger generation about how life altering 9/11 was for those of us who lived it. It’s only 10 min #themanintheredbandana

My son was rushed into hospital. For a while, it was touch and go. I rang my headteacher and was told, “His mum is with him, you don’t need to be there.”I left that school not long afterwards. It taught me a lesson I’ve never forgotten: people matter more than the job.
‘I rang my headteacher 10 minutes after my Dad died to say I would not be in the next day. Their reply was: “But it’s parents’ evening’”: Susan Douglas, CEO of Eden Academy Trust, shares the lessons she has learned about school leadership tes.com/magazine/leadership/…
