Look, apparently gifs aren't cool anymore but there's just no better way to explain what I feel returning to work in summer 2023 and checking in about our social media strategy.

A Pulitzer & a Peabody!! What an unbelievable 2 days! This feels like undeniable proof that Indigenous stories matter & that we should support Indigenous people to tell them. We are so grateful to survivors who shared with us & hope this means more people will hear their voices.

I don't know if I'm more amused or disturbed right now... So, I tried out @Canva's new AI-powered "magic designer" and I accidentally made nightmare fuel These clowns are straight out of the sewer drain. And (Trigger Warning!) they're not even the creepiest ones
A woman, mid-laugh, looks off to the side. She's sitting at a table in a backyard. Beside her are two bizzare-looking AI-generated clowns. One looks like a daddy clown with a wide grin and a shoddy face-paint job. His hat looks like a rainbow, polka-dotted paperboy cap with a pom pom. He wears a collared shirt that also looks like a golf shirt. He's holding a little clown child with warped facial features and wide eyes. Her hair looks like it's made out of tutu skirts.

Here's a closer look at the results, and I feel like I might cry a little. (Had to look a little too hard to provide detailed alt text.) Man. I was going for unintentionally creepy, y'know? But this?? 😭😭😭

Woman laughing next to daddy and little clown with wide eyes and oddly average clothing (except the dad’s shirt looks like a golf/collar/t-shirt hybrid)

Woman laughing with an older person with an unnaturally large and angular mouth and slouching neck that seems to melt into their backwards-looking shirt. She’s looking off to the side but he is starting straight at her. Random small balloons and a green hat with stars make this one a clown? He wears no clown makeup

A woman laughing with someone who certainly passes for a clown but for one glaring detail: no eyes. Just dark gaping holes where eyes should be

My friends actually have a great sense of humour, so part of me (🤡👋) wants to proceed. Ahhh So my question is: if I dare, which version should I give my friend? There's also the option to delete my Canva account and go into hiding🙃

Wow. @NPR's largest mass layoff since the '08 recession is already dispiriting at the 10,000 foot view And then I read threads like this from creators I love. Just ... oof. Hoping these truly special talents find their next home soon

Well, looks like my time with NPR is up. Gutted that @NPRinvisibilia the show I love & have given 7+ yrs of my life to has "stopped production". Gutted to not get to work with my brilliant teammates. Gutted that me & some 100 colleagues I admire have lost our jobs. This sucks.

Just finished @elamin88’s audiobook — a great companion as I care for my two month old. I’m grateful for Elamin’s tender and thorny concept of ‘elsewhere’ and I how it may resonate with our identity-rich babies. I can only imagine the “nebula of negotiation” they will face …

I’ve waited a long time for this day. My book, Son of Elsewhere, is out today. It’s a joy and a privilege to get to share it with you. You can get it wherever you buy your books, so pop by an indie bookstore. Then, if you’re so inclined, mention it to a friend 💕
