Ai has become a religion.
And just like many rationalists do, evidence becomes a demand to justify the faith.
If, or as soon as, Ai starts actually curing diseases, developing utilitarian infrastructure that benefits people, or otherwise raises mass prosperity to regular folk - you will see more converts. It is that simple.
Right now, for the avg. person, data centers just increase costs and cause noise pollution.
Unfortunately, while ai is powerful and useful in a number of ways, it is also being used by the ruling class to further splinter factions and make people angry at each other.
You see how many online arguments stem around ai?
Brand new ideology war for everyone to partake in.
Prediction:
College kids are screwed.
I’m changing my mind on AI.
It will drive a wedge between the competent and the average that is so wide the average and below average won’t be able to add value in white collar work.
Why hire a $100k a year college grad who knows nothing in NYC or San Fran when I can hire an AI native engineer in Colombia for half that?
Why hire an analyst when an AI native finance manager in South Africa is half the price and can do 3x the work?
Why hire an average sales person in the states for $100k when you can get a South African with Grok bot to be 10x as productive?
Global talent + AI is now much much closer to the best talent in America and much better than average talent in America.
What are all of these people going to do for work?
What do I train my kids to do to make sure they can earn a living?
My dad says this as a cliche refrain re: A.I. but I find it true and refreshing:
We have not even properly tried Human Intelligence (H.I.) yet!
Ai is now acting as a social contagion and way for people to “Other” foes they would never otherwise have any issue with. Really devious aspect to the rise of this technology. It’s an insane wedge issue now sociopolitically.
Whether you are pro or anti, just know you are being socially engineered to some degree to discount your neighbor.
Restaurants are a core part of society. Just because you can make a soup and sandwich at home does not disrupt and ruin the restaurant business.
