Wading into this water bottle debate as a cancer doctor. There has been a striking increase in #coloncancer in people under age 50. When you see an abrupt change like this by generation, it always raises concern for an environmental cause. #MedTwitter cancer.gov/news-events/cance…

What the hoot are you looking at 🦉 Oh wait, it's #NationalBirdDay! Despite its name, the great horned owl doesn’t actually have horns. Instead, it has tufts of feathers on either side of its head, which resemble horns or ears. 📸: USFWS/Jake Bonello 📝: Great horned owl

I tell my lab "Harvard" means three distinct things: a fictional place movie characters go as a shorthand, a metonym for elitism in academia and society more broadly, and a real school with holes in the walls. And generally the sooner people learn they're at the third, the better

Quick note on the latest tweet: - we’re all good everyone: having the twins was our choice (well one was a surprise), and we were prepared. But a lot of people aren’t, and this is a hard decision (stopping work) that falls too often on women. Just pointing it out. Again.

No. Just no. First gen is NOT when you’re first in your family to get a PhD. It gets so tiring seeing people claim barriers that then erase the incredibly significant barriers some of us actually faced. – at Tennessee, USA
Not to play oppression Olympics but I honestly thought “first gen” meant first in your family to graduate college, not first to earn a PhD. Color me shocked to learn this today lol

In May I graduated from Brown with my PhD and master’s degrees! To keep this short, thank you to everyone that has come along with me in this journey. S/o to @AliciaJMinor, as we were the first Black women to graduate with a PhD from @brownengin . We’re just getting started 😉

Last week, Tennessee passed legislation to allow international medical graduates to obtain licensure and practice independently *without* completing a U.S. residency program. This is BIG news. So you know what that means. Time to break it down, Winners & Losers™️ style. (🧵)

Had a student ask about a rock from their backyard. Said it kind of looked like petrified wood. They noted it was kind of fibrous. Hmmm... That's foreboding. Aaaaaaand, just received photos. Ruh roh! (Throw that away or put it in a jar!)

Not a matter of IF, but WHEN. Now we wait for the WHERE! To God be the Glory, I have secured my first doctor job and now just waiting to see where I will spend the next few years of my career as a pediatrician in training. Tune in Friday to see where I match for residency!

It's incredible seeing the transition from degraded, single-thread streams into expansive beaver-engineered wetlands. And it only took a handful of #beavers to do this. Imagine what the continent and the rivers looked like prior to the Fur Trade, back when beavers were abundant!

Well, it took 29 years, but I finally watched the original Jurassic Park, a cautionary tale about understaffing your engineering department and letting people push code directly to prod.
