At the NEXUS Japan-Global South High-Level Forum in Tokyo, Prof. Sachin Kumar Sharma (@SKSharma_World), Director General, RIS, joined the closing session on Building the Global Five Epistemic Caucus: A Common Knowledge Platform for Policy and Business Co-Creation in the Global South. Japan discussed the proposed Global Five Epistemic Caucus (G5EC), its objectives and its potential to foster knowledge-sharing and policy dialogue between Japan and the Global South. Prof. Sharma highlighted the importance of carrying forward G20 priorities through bilateral partnerships and trilateral cooperation, connecting global commitments with practical economic objectives. The forum also provided an opportunity to exchange perspectives with Japanese policymakers, industry leaders and experts. H.E. Mr. Kei Takagi, State Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), Japan, also joined the discussions on strengthening economic partnerships and expanding cooperation with the Global South. RIS extends its sincere appreciation to Prof. Hidetoshi Nishimura, Director, Musashino Institute for Global Affairs (@musashino_univ), for his leadership in advancing dialogue on Japan-Global South cooperation. The event featured a media interaction with Dr. Ravindra Kumar Tyagi (@DrRKTyagiIndia), Shri T. K. Ramachandran, Rear Admiral J. S. Mann (@JsRadm), Prof Sachin Kumar Sharma (@SKSharma_World), Cmde. Hon'ble Prime Minister’s vision of making “chips and ships” in India underlines the importance of strengthening domestic capabilities in strategic industries. NAMEXPO seeks to advance this ambition by bringing naval and commercial shipbuilding closer, unlocking synergies between the two sectors and strengthening India’s maritime ecosystem. 𝐏𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐥 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐮𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 | 𝐋𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐐𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐅𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐀𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 Prof. Venu Gopal Achanta, Director, @CSIR_NPL, chaired the technical session, which brought together experts from accreditation, industry, testing and conformity assessment to explore ways to leverage India’s quality infrastructure in FTAs. Setting the context, Shri Anil Jauhri (@aniljauhri), Visiting Fellow, RIS, highlighted the importance of examining how quality infrastructure provisions within FTAs can facilitate market access and deliver meaningful benefits to Indian industry. Mr. Ramprasath R., Joint Director, @NABL_QCI, emphasised the need for clear mechanisms to recognise Indian conformity assessment bodies and reduce duplicative testing and compliance costs in export markets. Mr. Ratan Rana, Founder & Director, @iqascorp, called for stronger institutional mechanisms and sector-specific arrangements to facilitate cross-border acceptance of accreditation and conformity assessment results. Mr. Anil Bharadwaj (@abhardwaj_fisme), Secretary General, @FISME, proposed FTA-readiness audits by product, destination market and industrial cluster to facilitate MSME access to international markets.
