there is one universal truth: you have to use emotion for acquisition & substance for retention. you can apply it to products, dating women, whatever. the same damn principle applies everywhere: what gets someone interested is rarely if ever the same thing that makes them stay.

Let's talk about something everyone in crypto knows, but nobody says loud enough. This entire industry is surreal. People who can barely read become prophets. People who know nothing about economics get rich overnight and suddenly become the voice of financial wisdom. Stupid ideas make millions. Genius ideas die quietly. Anonymous keyboard warriors become legends. And the funniest part? They're not necessarily wrong. They're not laughing at the world. The world itself is the joke. And somehow, it all works. Crypto is the only place where being delusional long enough can eventually make you right. I'm not here to tell you crypto needs to change. Quite the opposite. I think we need to stop pretending this space is supposed to make sense. There's no perfect correlation between intelligence, effort, talent and success here. Sometimes the smartest person loses everything. Sometimes the biggest idiot in the room walks away a millionaire. That's not an exception. That's the game. You can participate, build, experiment, fail, get lucky, try again. Or you can walk away. That's fine too. But if you choose to stay, stop fighting the absurdity. Embrace the weirdness. Embrace the randomness. Accept that sometimes nothing makes sense, and that's perfectly fine. The only truly irrational thing is expecting rationality from a world that never promised any. Too stupid to fail.

for zcash, privacy is often misunderstood as the end all be all that certainly serves a clear market segment and is incredibly important but I posit the more significant part of privacy is its role in enabling a better monetary asset privacy enables choice, but more importantly it enables the safe haven and fungibility required for a true internet-native SoV internet-money by default has historical information attached to it which means that one coin may not actually be fungible for another coin (i.e if the Canadian government determines your coins came from those supporting the truckers, they can come after you for years into the future) i.e the money you receive shouldn't come with the baggage of those who held it before you cash does not have this problem and is devoid of all information which enables true fungibility and higher liquidity in the limit, and so too must internet-native money have this property even with gold and other offshore holdings, there's a reason people (used to) put them in Switzerland to take advantage of bank secrecy but with Zcash, we now scale this to the entire planet. that's the point of tech: scale now, all you need is an internet connection and a cryptographic keypair to get all these benefits that were only available to a select few so, even if you're someone who doesn't need the privacy aspect of zcash, it's still foundational for enabling a better monetary asset along with quantum proofing and performance upgrades trillions

You have to understand: Solana is carrying the torch for an open system alone. There’s no exchange with millions of existing traders to feed from. There’s no listing mechanism or Vlad or CZ to wave a magic wand. There’s no Jeff to add new features every week. It’s just the Solana community. Those people who chew glass for breakfast. If you build on Solana, you’re a chad by default. You’re not chasing trends, or listings. You want to win as big as possible, on your own terms. You’re not waiting for approval. Open systems will win because they are fundamentally better. They won’t always be the sexiest new thing. They won’t be able to catch every meta. But they produce better products and attract better talent over time. It took 6 years for Solana spot markets to mature into being world class. We are a year into tokenization and equities. 6 months into perps. 3 months into prediction markets. We are just at the beginning of a super cycle where the entire world will come onchain. I’ve never been more bullish on Solana. It’s the one.
original solana thesis of owning the chain + distribution layer through exchange was so insanely accurate two failed attempts with serum and then ftx third attempt now with backpack which is doing lot of heavy lifting on tokenized equities side robinhood working backwards on the same thesis, owns distribution + exchange now working on the onchain + culture aspect hyperliquid + kraken an unexpected entrant into this game coinbase + base also trying a similar thing combination of both things when executed properly is very strong, multi-trillion dollar outcome for the winner(s) and all of these players need the attention of retail, which is heavily skewed towards the most popular traders

some thoughts on the sentiment around crypto first, the AI comparisons seem silly in the grand scheme unless your time horizon was 3 years people have been working to make AI a thing for many decades, and scalable crypto didn't exist until 3 years ago not to mention, AI will aid crypto as AI excels in aiding software + math based systems (upgrading monetary systems is also a much longer process than upgrading software systems) second, speculation is innate in all humans and has been for centuries since speculation will never go away, neither will crypto class inequality rises -> more speculation and more opportunity to make it on a globally accessible permisionless economic computer or... class inequality reduces due to socialism barriers and state controls -> then you again need crypto against the barriers there is no world in which crypto does not keep growing the only questions that remained were i) is there potential beyond speculation? ii) will these things scale or will they remain slow databases? iii) can they become serious enough to break a trillion in mcap? iv) will governments allow it? those have been answered positively with stablecoins, solana, bitcoin, and recent regulations there remains tremendous work to be done on the frontiers for ownership, security, privacy, integrations, and legislation you should be happy that there are still many problems to solve otherwise there'd be no opportunity nor any fun I am tremendously long crypto

Andreas Antonopoulos on the two futures of digital money: “The problem is we are going to a digital currency society where cash will be gradually eradicated either through non-use or a lot of countries and a lot of governments actively banning it. They’re putting limits on how much you can use cash, say, $1,000. And if it’s more than $1,000, using cash is illegal. We have to really think about the implications. Do we want a society in which our digital money is under complete surveillance and complete control, where if you go to the wrong protest or if you support the wrong political campaign, or if you make a payment to the wrong person or receive money from the wrong person, suddenly your money disappears, it’s no longer yours anymore, it’s frozen, it’s seized, it’s gone. And someone has control of that. Corporations. Banks. Governments. And in most cases there is no difference between corporation, bank and government. And so that’s one scenario, and the other scenario is one in which individuals control their money. And it is digital money, but it’s digital cash, like Bitcoin, where you can pay an individual from one person to another, just like I can with cash today without any other party getting involved. What really strikes me as amazing is that we’ve gotten used to this idea so quickly, which is that we no longer pay people. We no longer pay people directly. The less we use cash, the more we pay people through a corporation. So from tipping your valet to tipping your taxi driver to tipping wherever, tipping is pretty much the last remaining part of our society where cash is used to pay from one person who is not an incorporated entity to another person who is not an incorporated entity. Everything else you have to pay through a corporation, whether it’s a bank, whether it’s Venmo, whether it’s PayPal, whether it’s any of those things. And we’ve gradually gotten used to this environment where we can’t pay another person unless there’s a corporation involved. And that’s astonishing to me. And as cash disappears, that then becomes a final fact that every single payment in your life will be from you to a corporation. So the issue is not what we have today versus the digital currency of the future or Bitcoin or whatever. It’s that both futures are digital currency and in both futures, cash will no longer exist. That is inevitable. We are going down that road and now we have to choose: Do we go to the digital cashless society of corporate control over money with the complete and total merging of corporate and state money where instead of having separation of state and money, you have the merging of state and money and corporation and money where your money is branded money. You have Chase dollars. You have Goldman Sachs dollars. You have Coca Cola dollars. You have money that is controlled by a corporation. Or do we go down the other future where we have money that is basically an Internet protocol that is completely global that any person can pay any person they meet in the streets without any corporations getting involved. Just from me to you, digital cash. And it’s a less optimistic view because I’m fully aware of what the other future is and it’s already playing out and it is in my opinion, a very dangerous future.”

We went from 0 to 1,000+ paid customers in our first 20 weeks by religiously following these @ycombinator 12 rules: 1/ grow retention before growth. we didn't run a single growth campaign until we hit 90% weekly retention. scaling a leaky bucket just means you fail faster 2/ ignore everyone who isn't your customer. i stopped reading competitor blogs, industry news, and most of twitter. the only company that can kill you in year one is your own 3/ manual is faster than perfect. our first 50 users each got a personal onboarding call from me. you can't automate what you don't understand yet 4/ validate before you build. we put a credit card gate on @origamichat on day 2. it's easy to convince yourself people want your product when nobody's paying 5/ ugly product > no product. we shipped a barely-working version to 30 people in a week. real users teach you more in 7 days than 6 months of polishing in the dark 6/ your customers write your roadmap. i still spend 3 hours a day on user calls. every feature we've shipped came from a conversation, not a planning session 7/ fire bad fits early. we've fired customers who were wrong for our product. 10 people who love you beat 1,000 who kind of like you. every time 8/ ship every week without exception. we push code to production every friday. consistency compounds in ways you can't see at first 9/ stay small longer than feels comfortable. we were 2 people for a very longtime. Headcount is not progress. every great startup was embarrassingly small for embarrassingly long 10/ know your burn, know your runway. we track default alive on a whiteboard every week. scary but necessary. most startups don't die from the market, they die from running out of time 11/ expect things to break constantly. we've had 3 near-death moments. the game isn't avoiding fires, it's how fast you put them out 12/ honest conflict > polite silence. brutal honesty with your cofounder is the cheapest insurance you'll ever buy good luck and dont forget to have fun

back in 2023-24 this would've been 9/11 for L2 mfers solana blocktimes are 400ms (with plans to reach 200ms soon) but you can see txn data way earlier than that, on the order of 2 digit ms latency from submission now with this, we open up the lowest latency data to everyone
