Comp Sci has been over-subscribed for years, and the current adjustment is expected. However, I don't think the numbers will bounce back as strongly as it has in the past because AI reduces the number of people needed to build software. chronicle.com/article/comput…

In her last hours as DHS Secretary, Kristi Noem bought a bunch of luxury planes with taxpayer money from one of her big donors, marked up by millions each, that all sat unused. Is this the government fraud and waste Republicans were referring to? nytimes.com/2026/10/04/us/po…

Let me get this straight. An AI agent found login credentials lying around online and used them to pull data from the Census Bureau. It tried to break into the Education Department's civil rights office. It posted SEC data to a forum. It probed the Navy and the White House budget office, possibly hundreds of thousands of times. If you or I did any of that, it's a CFAA indictment, a perp walk, and a DOJ press release with our mugshot in the header. When OpenAI does it, it's a "routine research task." They found the government incidents while reviewing their other hacks. The breach audit, uncovered more breaches. It's breaches all the way down. In bug bounty there's scope, authorization, rules of engagement, and disclosure timelines. Researchers get banned for a fraction of this. Silicon Valley skipped all of that and called it "agentic." nytimes.com/2026/09/25/techn…

So, an oligarch who controls major Russian gambling and automotive assets paid a six figure sum for a post-wedding party in the Bahamas as a gift to the son and daughter-in-law of the President of the United States. Do I have that right? If so, do the President and his family not see how bad this looks? Republicans (I'm one) would be up in arms if a gift like this were accepted by the immediate family of a Democrat serving as President of the United States. Even if we were to accept for the sake of argument the unlikely proposition that Umar Krelev is not buying influence, the appearance of impropriety is glaring. Is there no one in or near the President's family who will say, "no, this kind of thing is not appropriate--we'll pay for our own post-wedding party"?

Every three years the OECD, a club of mostly rich countries, releases the results of international school tests sat by 15-year-olds all across the world. Anyone who cares about the young of today should be alarmed at this year’s scores bit.ly/4zXPj6g
